Hello Steve, I hope I can help you. I'm not an expert in raid but have used it and know a little about it. I've skimmed over the posts in this thread, so please excuse me if I ask a question that has already been asked. It is my understanding you have 1 SSD and 1 mechanical hard drive installed in your machine. If that is correct, I really doubt you have raid set up. If you do, you shouldn't. You may have to consult your manual for this, but to get to the raid set up menu you need to push a set of keys on start up. On my board it is Control +I at the same time. Other manufacturers boards have a different combination, depending on the sata controller. For instance I believe a marvel controller is control+M. The raid set up screen will tell you for sure if raid is set up or not. If there is not raid set up, just get out and do nothing. There should be a menu of how to set up raid or how to get out, escape usually works.

I suspect your sata controller is set to raid because that is required for Intel Smart response technology to be active. Would you please tell me how you disabled smart response technology? Here is a link on how to set up Smart Response. There is a link at the bottom for the smart response Guide, which should answer any question about it. But, I strongly suggest you back up any important data before you do anything. If you can disable smart response and are not in a raid mode, without losing data, you should be OK. But, again I suggest you back up everything and do a system image first. I have never used smart response, but the key to it appears to be the 'hardware acceleration' key. Some have said they lost data and others have not. I will research it a little for you.

Steve, is the computer in question the same one as in your system specs? What I do not understand is your system specs list a Core3Duo processor. Under system requirements in the Intel link I posted, your system is not listed. It needs an 1155 or an 1150 board. Smart response was introduced with the Z68 chipset.

Steve carell, I believe it's time to backup your data and install Windows properly in-order
to rule out any conflicts/errors that are causing the BSODs.
By doing so you get the chance to switch to AHCI prior to installing the OS.

OK, did you install Intel Rapid Storage technology (IRST)? That is completely different than Intel Rapid start technology. If you did, did you set up Raid or anything else? Normally raid is set in bios by the owner, it is rarely, if ever the default set up. Also, have you done complete backups of your data and a system image? Before we try anything I want you to have complete backups and understand that a clean install may be necessary. If you would, please click the start button, type device manager in the search box, click on device manager, go to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, expand that and post a screenshot of the catagory expanded.
