BSOD (bad_poll_header) preventing startup on Lenovo G570

    Hi folks,

I'm currently trying to ressurect my mother's win 7 laptop from a BSOD which is preventing startup.

Whilst I'm reasonably tech savvy (Ex S/W Developer) I'm a Mac owner myself and not really used a Windows machine for the past 10 years so I'm struggling somewhat to get anywhere.

Machine specs (as far as I can gather from her original Amazon purchase):
    Lenovo G570 15.6-inch Laptop
    Intel Celeron B815 1.6GHz
    4GB RAM
    320GB HDD
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

From what mum's told me, the machine was working normally yesterday (10th) and failed to start this morning.

On booting, ever time it fails with a BSOD reporting a BAD_POOL_HEADER and an error code of 0x00000019

    So far, I've tried:
    Startup Repair can't..
System restore back to the last saved restore point (Automatic update 2 weeks ago)
It will start in safe mode, and I've tried disabling pretty much all the startup items but still no luck.

That's about the limit of my trial & error noodlings so far. I'd appreciate any pointers on my next options.

    Cheers,

    Rich

It seems that AVG is the cause of your BSOD's. Please uninstall it and use Microsoft Security Essentials & the Free version of Malwarebytes, update and make full scans separately:

       Note
Do not start the trial version of MalwareBytes

Fantastic. I've been through all of the above and everything seems to be working again now.

You guys rock - thanks so much for the advice.

I now have a very happy mum again, and she's just telling all her friends on the phone how I'm 'such a good boy for sorting out her computer'… Ha ha, I'm 44!...
