BSOD - x124 Hardware During light loads only

Hello!

I am going through the steps suggested in the "Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try" thread but thought I would post some of the symptoms here to see if an experienced user could read them better than I can.

The error occurs almost exclusively when I am doing mundane things like filling out forms in a browser (like this post) or using office software such as PowerPoint. I can run high stress games such as Arma 2, Arma 3, and even the Battlefield 4 beta at length without any problems. My GFX card temp tops out at 80 (high, I know) and processor at 70, but nothing that should be causing real damage.

I have gone through 3 passes with memtest86, I have run prime95 for 2 hours, and I have thoroughly tested my video card with fuhrmark (sp?) and Kombustor. I also ran chkdsk on my drives as well as reinstalled windows to rule out software.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

These are 0x124 Bugchecks, a fatal hardware error.

Seems like it's your CPU that's at fault. It could also be heat related, do you have a good amount of thermal paste in your system? You also have some old drivers, including...

Also, do you have any motherboard software installed? It can be buggy, just leave the drivers needed for your system.

I am working on updating the drivers, I didn't even know you could update processor drivers before.

If I keep having problems after that (the BSOD is so rare that I can go a week without it happening), I will go the thermal paste route.

Quick question: does the processor report chip temperature or does it come via a mobo sensor? I have never noticed overheating.
