With Linux LiveCD? I think the hard drive is the problem then.

HI, I'm sorry but I'm confused: I was able to retrieve and copy all of my files with the link you posted but the pc never actually started up...meaning there was never a log on screen or anything like that. But is the ability of retrieving the files the same as booting up? Or not?

With a Linux LiveCD, your booting from the image stored on the DVD or USB stick, it's completely independent of the Windows boot process.

    HI again:)
well, next I've tried to reinstall Norton but couldn't get online via dsl/Verizon as usual because I get the message : No network adapter. I tried to reinstall Verizon with the original disc and I get the message that there is a connectivity issue-no network adapter.
Do you know what to make of this?

What options does it give you?

Open Device Manager, and then post a screenshot like in the example below.

HI, well I took you advice and it all seemed to work but now I have another problem...
I have 2 drives now (?) the D drive which is filled to the brim and I have been warned about needing to make more file space. I cleaned it. fragmented it and compressed which all worked. But really still too full-got a message that if it crashed there wouldb't be enought memory to get it back up and running.
Then there is the C Drive which is almost empty but I can't seem to get the computer to run from it????
The D Drive;'s bar is all red. The C drive has some green on the bar-not much.
