BSOD from ataport, can't even run SRO or reinstall Win7
I left my computer running while I went to the gym. When I got back an hour later, my computer was frozen. Rebooting gave me a BSOD and I used WhoCrashed in safemode to trace it back to ntfskrnl and dtsoftbus. Removing Daemon Tools allowed me to boot regularly for about 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, I got another BSOD, this time coming from ataport.sys. I'm currently using BackTrack5 I happened to luckily have loaded on a disk laying around. I used Disk Utility to check my HDD's SMART health, and everything is coming back normal (e.g. no bad sectors, filesystem is in the clear.) Unfortunately, I cannot install BackTrack to the HDD so that I can put an OS on a disk, and trying to run Win7 SRO or Win7 install just loads windows files, and then presents me with an ataport.sys BSOD. Am I screwed? Possibly a rootkit? I desperately need advice. Thank you!
