Hello and welcome edman can you boot into safe mode? If so try these

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Disk Check < dont' run on a SSD

    Thanks for your reply, appreciated

I have malwarebytes installed do I still need to run the other one you suggested

    Also excuse the novice question....
    < DO NOT run on a SSD<<

does this mean to only run it on my c drive which I only have as the main drive

Sorry late reply mate no that do not run means that because SSD hard drives work very differently as opposed to spinners running the chkdsk on them is detrimental to their longevity.
So if you have an SSD you never run chkdsk or a defrag on it for those reasons they have an inbuilt cleaning system called TRIM.

But please that is what this forum is all about if you don't know ask because as one of the admin members says "The only dumb question is the one that someone doesn't ask" I think you have got the right idea about taking part in here and I think you are to be commended for it:)

But back to the problem if you haven't run the chkdsk do so and the SuperAntiSpyware scan too

    http://www.superantispyware.com/

Always a good idea too Edman is to make sure the system specs are kept up to date in the specs and you can use this to do that it saves an awful lot of time and searching for the specs on just a machine number.
System Info - See Your System Specs
another we might look at is this Speccy - Download < from piriform
this will show us the temps inside the machine for example which is another cause to be eliminated
For posting back screen shots I find this the easiest way
Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums
the snipping tool I keep on my taskbar for ease of access to do that got to
Start > type snipping tool > right click on the blue reference that will pop up > right click - pin to taskbar. To get rid of it right click - unpin form taskbar I always keep it on my machines because I use it all the time.
