Windows 7: BSOD When Copying Files to External HDD

BSOD When Copying Files to External HDD

It started after I purchased an external USB3 HDD. All my previous HDDs were USB 2.0. The moment I plugged it into the USB3 socket for the first time, the computer blue screened. I followed Windows 7's Action Centre advice to install the suggested newer AsMedia USB3 driver, and it seems to have solved the 'BSOD on plug-in' issue. However, when I'm copying files or doing anything with external HDDs, it'll randomly BSOD. This isn't limited to the USB3 device anymore. I used to have the latest AsMedia USB3 driver from the ASUS website.

As attached is the SF zip. Thank you so much for your assistance!

The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system that cannot be identified at this time.

Gary, the 0x24 bug check is usually indicative of the Windows ntfs.sys driver having problems writing to NTFS drives - this is suggestive of a problem with the underlying operating system. I had a bit more of a look at your system information and noticed you are using a Lenova 2 OEM licence, yet you are using a custom motherboard. This is only possible if the Windows installation has been 'cracked'.

In this particular case, I would recommend purchasing a retail version of Windows 7, and then reinstalling it. There is no telling what other issues may arise by not using a legitimate installation.
