That would be because you've downloaded the "Itanium" (IA-64) version, as opposed to the "x64" build.

For whatever misguided reason (alphabetisation?), they've placed the Itanium version of the download, which is used in <1% of cases, ahead of the x64 build, which constitutes the other >99% of the 64-bit install base.

Your specs suggest you're running x64 Windows. Make sure you're downloading and trying to install the "x64" version of the tools.

Installed the correct version this time.

I will try to get the error happening again tomorrow, it's not doing it right now.

I have reproduced the problem but the folder is too big (200 MB). Compressing to an archive gets it to 64 MB.

If you upload to Rapidshare.com or a similar service, I'll try to take a look at it ASAP.

Sorry Nikolay, while working on another similar issue I realised I'd overlooked an easier way to get the important info across. In that dump folder you may find 2 DMP files:

    1) A massive one (hundreds of MB) with "1st_chance" as part of its name.
    2) A much smaller one (few MB at most) with "2nd_chance" in the name.

It's (2) that I'm primarily interested in right now. Zipped up, that file may only be a few hundred KB in size - small enough to upload here.

I am having the same problem and have another thread, but while I am waiting for the member that is helping me with my problem, I thought I'd attach mine and see if someone could take a look at it.

Heap metadata is corrupted. The bad data causes a crash when an attempt is made to validate a particular heap region. However, an indeterminate amount of time has already passed between the original corruption of the data and the eventual crash.

There's a way to make the OS apply greater scrutiny to the heap operations within a given process. That can lead to catching the heap corruptor at the time it does its business, as opposed to later on when its too late and the evidence is obliterated. The procedure:

    1) On an elevated (run as admin) CMD prompt, from the directory where you installed the debugging tools: gflags /p /enable Explorer.exe /full

    2) Reboot or restart Explorer (same effect).

    3) Once again, run the "cscript adplus.vbs...." command from before.

    4) Reproduce the Explorer crash again.

    5) Find the new DMP file, hopefully the small one with "2nd_chance" in its name, and upload just that for analysis.
