BSoDs with drivers hal.dll, ndis.sys, bmcwl664.sys, ntoskrnl.exe

I'd restored my laptop to the factory settings due to multiple BSoDs some 3 months back. But it didn't solve the problem and I've had 13 BSoDs in this period. Apart from the BSoDs I've had problems with slow boot up, freezing and random overheating issues. Updating the drivers have ameliorated boot up and freezing issue but the overheating issue has now exacerbated. I've had two shutdowns due to overheating. I've tried cleaning fan and heat sink but it seems to have aggravated the problem. I'm not very technologically savvy. I tried out various things I could do like restoring to factory settings, updating the drivers, cleaning up the machine, running anti-malware and anti-virus, memtest86, BIOS and UEFI diagnostics but I'm fast running out of ideas. I've followed the instructions given in 'how to start a thread' and have attached folder containing various logs. If I'm forgetting something to mention here the please do tell me. I hope to find the solution pretty soon.

It is an old HP laptop, so better you dont expect too much from it. I see a lot of drivers are outdated, including the display and network drivers. But OEM driver listings are as old as the installed drivers, too. So that would not be of any real help.

You did a factory restore? It restored the drivers back to a very old time.

I would suggest you to go for a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

9. The installer is mostly driver-complete, with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. So after install connect to your network after installing LAN driver if necessary, enable hardware driver auto-updating, install all rounds of Important and Optional Updates.

If the computer is overheating, you need a cleanup and re-paste the thermal compound. Clean all the air vents, fan grills so that it can blow the hot air out efficiently. Laptops generally are not very heat efficient, and within this time it may be all blocked by dusts. Also, re-paste the thermal compound.



If you cannot do it yourself, take the help of a technician. But it is very essential to do.

After doing these two, let us know how the computer is running. I doubt that the WiFi issue will be recovered by these actions, so the feedback will be necessary.

I'd tried to restore this laptop to factory settings using the HP utility but it didn't fix the problem. As you've correctly noted OEM website listed drivers are themselves are quite old. In fact I updated a few drivers especially the Broadcom wireless LAN and switchable graphics card drivers. But when I ran scan with DriverMax free edition it showed scores of outdated drivers. I'm reluctant to touch them because as it is updating few of the above mentioned drivers made the heating problem worse. Although OEM website lists my BIOS as up to date, do you think perhaps a BIOS will be useful for eliminating both BSoDs and overheating at the same time? I've already cleaned up the fan and heat sink and applied a fresh thermal paste but it didn't improve the problem. If you don't think the BIOS update will help then I'll do a 'clean' restore as you suggest.

BIOS update is the last resort.

ATM what you need to do is a clean reinstall. And then it is to observe it the network crashes are still occurring or not.

Dont forget to perform the step 9, as pointed earlier :)
