Nah - that error on the last one is my fault

Please try that one again - now I've corrected it!

    Code:

    ICACLS C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-kernelstreamingsupport_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_bde9acc8f46cb6db /T

    .
    post the new results.

That all looks the same as my machine :)

I don't see why the XCOPY command isn't having the desired results, and I'm reluctant to attempt to do the change within Windows manually.
I'm going to call for some assistance - don't run away!

Hey Noel, I'm sorry but I had to take some drastic steps
I factory resetted my laptop, after backing up my all my data

I've still had some bsods ie bad pool header, system service exception etc

I'm now thinking that there might be ram problems so I'm running memtest, but so far no errors

I really don't know what's wrong, sorry for deviating from the plan, but if it doesn't work in the next week, my dad is threatening to format it and do a fresh install at some shop (I don't want to do that!!!!)

Again really sorry,i will post CBS and diagnostic ASAP

Ps Win mem diag shows hardware probs detected

That's OK - as you suggest, the fact that you're having problems after a system recovery means that there's a good chance of a hardware problem.
The Windows memory tester is fairly insensitive - so the problem may well be worse than it looks. RAM is cheap nowadays, and it is worth at least getting prices on replacement/upgrade RAM.

    Good luck!

Noel if you could give some last advice, I am now getting frequent app crashes, like catalyst control ie. Amd gpu chrome, some tosihba bloatware etc. Could these be indicators of ram problems? Thanks

    Very definitely!
All software touches the RAM and all writes to disk stand a chance of being corrupted by bad RAM - this means that your new install could already be corrupted (although the Recovery partition should still be OK, since it doesn't get written to at any time).

If even the windows Memory diagnostic is showing that you have problems then you need to address the hardware issue - and only then any remaining software ones.

Hi noel and the rest of the forum

    the problem has been SOLVED!!!!

after taking it to a technician, it was found that one of my ram chips was faulty and for almost 3 days (touchwood) no BSODs

    What Ive learnt,
1.if win mem diag shows a problem even occasionally, better check your ram just to be sure-lest your data is corrupted
2.memtest is reliable if you run it regularly and maybe for many passes , it only showed my errors twice, i think when the probem got really serious
    3. always check for quick fixes before taking drastic steps

Thanks to this forum and especially noel, my laptop is better now and has 6 GB of ram (4+2) now
