BSOD nightmare since 8.1 install ntoskrnl.exe suspected

Been hampered by various blue screen of death codes, and no google searches yielded any fixes.

BSOD occurs during browing on Chrome or working on Word. Having downloaded BlueScreenView, I took a look and ntoskrnl.exe seems to be the most frequent offender.

This is an Asus Laptop, intel i3 64 bit, which originally had windows 8, and now has 8.1. More information is in my profile.

Any additional information I will do my best to provide. Thank you very much for your help.

I can;t find a faulting driver (yet) so in the interim, I'll recommend the following:

1. Click Start
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
4. In the command window that opens, type chkdsk /R and hit enter.

You will be prompted whether you wish to schedule a chkdsk scan at next startup, type 'Y' and hit enter. Now restart your computer and chkdsk will automatically run.

I ran the disk check, which completed eventually. However it did it under some Asus graphic, so there were no viewable statistics other than a percentage complete text at the bottom. No idea if it found/fixed any faults as a result. I've come back to my laptop once or twice to see it at the log in screen, implying a restart and a possible BSOD, but not seen one myself since.
