Brand New HP laptop with intermitent BSOD, Civ 4 may be the cause

    Hello

I have a brand spanking new HP laptop (specs in my signature I hope) that is having a recurring BSOD, at least I think it is the same one.

The BSOD seemed to strike first after I installed CIV 4, but that may just be me making a link where none exists. It has struck fairly randomly so far, the last time was whilst I was attempting to install some software (Pro-Fantasy mapping software).

I would really like to see if I can sort this out before I have to go through the really painful process of back and forth between HP tech support and ebuyer tech support.

If anyone could have a look and give me an idea what may be wrong this noob really appreciate it.

hpdskflt.sys is the driver for the HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection software. Check on the HP site whether an updated driver is available. If not, I would recommend uninstalling this software.

Thank you very much for the reply.

Unfortunately the new lap top would not boot up this morning and although extensive surgery was attempted (restore to factory settings) we (myself and HP support) could not breathe life into the poor thing.

Hopefully the replacement will behave itself, otherwise I shall be back here asking for help.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to look into this for me.

    Cheers

Ouch. Bad luck. Hopefully the new one is more stable.
