BSOD after presumably after Install of Fonts package using GPO

    Hi,

I have been deploying out fonts to our Windows 7 machines to Install a new font via MSI software roll out and registry setting via GPO:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Fonts\(Font name)

Since the Install we have noticed a few machines BSOD with:

    STOP: 0x0000008E

    MODULE_NAME: win32k

    IMAGE_NAME: win32k.sys

    From a minidump:

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: 95f9dd71, The address that the exception occurred at

I am not very sure that teh BSOD is caused by fonts; though it needs multiple crash dumps to identify the font issue.

Apparently the intel graphics driver and the intel RST driver is failing.

To suggest you the appropriate steps, we need to see some more files those you havent installed.

    upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.

    1. Click on the start button
    2. Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
    3. File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
    4. Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
    5. Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

Run the SF Diag tool again, and upload the dxdiag.txt file, too.

For the computer already under discussion: You need to perform a clean install.

Why? Because as it was said earlier, Intel RST is causing some issues there. And you get rid of that; but you cannot in the existing situation. Because RST is set as SCSI mode.

Boot into the BIOS advanced settings, and disable Intel Rapid storage there. If any Intel Smart Response option is there too, disable that one too. Then set the storage controller mode to AHCI.

Now perform a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

For the other laptop, concentrate on it when the issue under discussion is over. Otherwise the situation/thread will be haphazard.

Hope you have followed the other steps too.

Let us know about the situation.
