Random BSOD and various problems - hardware issues?

    Hello everyone,

I recently built a new computer, which worked fine for some time (a couple of days I think), then started having a few problems:

    • BSOD at start, after login (most common)
    • slower performance
    • firefox crashes
    • graphic crashes (the screen freezes on a distorted image)
    • odd noise when playing a specific video (the intro of Rome 2 Total war) that came from somewhere inside of the case...

    Here are my specs:

Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Pearl Black
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570k (3.4 GHz)
    GPU : VTX3D Radeon HD 7950 OC X-Edition, 3 Go
    MB: MSI Z77A-G45
    Memory:it Kit Dual Channel DDR3 Crucial Ballistix Sport, 2 x 4 Go, PC3-12800, CAS 9
SSD: SSD Samsung Série 840 EVO, 250 Go, SATA III
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue, 1 To
PWR: Super Flower Golden Green, 550W
    Heatsink: Noctua NH-U14S

Memtest hasn't found anything after 8 passes, drive check came out with no responses, same with my antivirus (Avira). Note that most crashes happen on start.

I do have a suspect: the GPU came with a default that didn't allow me to firmly fix it to the case. The connection is a little twisted outwards and it sort of half-hangs into the air. I disconnected it and put it back, and now things are worse and my problems more diverse - I originally had only BSODs.
You will find crash dump reports down below.

Do you think this could be a hardware issue? Could I ask the manufacturer for a replacement?

Thank you in advance for your help.

From your own analysis, Avira seems to be the cause of the problem. Uninstall it and replace with MSE.

I suggest you upload the actually .dmp files so I can interrogate them better. Use this:

    1. Download this .BAT file to your desktop

    Download

    2. Right-click the .BAT file and 'Run as Administrator'
    3. Locate the .ZIP file created on your desktop, and upload it here in your next reply.

Hi, sorry, I hadn't seen that first thread with the posting instructions!

Here is my analysis. Experienced two freezes this morning on start, no blue screen, just a messed up window.

Anyone? I will uninstall Avira tonight, but I also heard that Steam could sometimes cause similar issues.

Though the diversity of the reports around system drivers really made me think about a hardware issue. That and the fact that things somewhat changed (for the worse) when unplugged and plugged back my GPU.

Please confirm that Avira is uninstalled, then when it BSODs again, post the latest dmp file

    Hi again,

My computer has sort of passed away.

I removed the GPU, things were better, but BSOD again.
I uninstalled Avira and Steam, BSOD right away.
Since then, I systematically get one on start, with the error reference 0x000000C4
    (0x000000000000005, 0x000000000000000, 0xFFFFFA8006736750, 0x000000000000000).

I thought that there might be a problem with my RAM, I removed one chip, nothing, put it back and removed the other, nada.

This whole thing is pretty weird too: things were significantly better after I took out my GPU, then after uninstalling Steam and Avira everything just died overnight.

I have no idea what to do. I can't even access safe mode.

Are you able to perform a Starup Repair?

Nope, I tried that already and it Windows says it is unable to repair my computer.

Is my only solution to reinstall Windows? Is there a way to know for sure whether it's a hardware problem or not?

Try StartUp Repair 3 times, one after another please.

    Hi Golden,

I tried, to no avail. It runs for about ten seconds then says that Windows could not repair the computer.
