    BSOD random times, several errors

    Hey Seven Forums!

    I have had this laptop for more than half a year, I bought it second hand because it was really cheap but now I'm getting random Blue Screens of Deaths. I first thought that it could be a driver so I updated them all but to no help, I made a clean install of Windows 7 but still to no help. It all started six days ago, I was playing grand Theft Auto 4, it memory dumped and restarted and since then I've gotten regular Blue Screens of Death. When watching Dexter on Netflix, playing games or just plain out relaxing to music... I do not have all the dumps because I formatted my hard drive.

    I am not one hundred percent sure if I have provided enough information in this post because frankly I am a bit of a nut when it comes to making good informative posts on any kind of forum...

    Hi CardboardCat.

    It appears to be a hardware issue, which is tough to debug on a 4 years old computer.

    But first of all, update the display driver from Download Drivers .... opt for the "Automatically Detect and Install" option there.

    Next, do some hardware tests.

    Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
    Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

    Stress test the CPU.
    Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

    Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
    How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
    Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.
    If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

    Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs .

    Also, search for any possible BIOS update for HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC.
    Code:
    BiosVersion = F.13
    BiosReleaseDate = 01/25/2010
    A backdated BIOS may also be interpreted as a hardware issue.

    Let us know the results.

    Hai Arc,

    I have updated my display driver and BIOS, I am going to test my hardware tonight! I was playing a League of Legends game when I got a blue screen again so I really think that it's my laptop who's failing on me...

    Speccy snapshot is coming tommorrow, I am feeling tired... I have been out in the park the whole day.

    Yo Arc!

    I've got a Speccy snapshot of normal usage: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/Q...oziYYQ7p5Gixji

    I did not get around to RAM test yet because I needed to babysit my little cousin...

    Going to stress test as soon as possible!

    BTW, these two are hot for normal usage. And with the usage time, it will tend to increase more.

    Attachment 306478

    You need to dismantle the computer. Clean the inside carefully. Be very careful, dont break anything inside. Clean all the air vents and fan grills so that it can blow the hot air out. While re-seating, apply new thermal paste to the CPU.

    When done, post another snapshot, to document the changes.

    If you cannot do it yourself, ask anybody who can do it. Even you may take help of any professional. But dont neglect it. Such a heat anytime cause hardware issues.

    Oki! My big brother is coming home tomorrow so I am going to ask him if he would like to help me clean the inside of my laptop!

    Thank you for your advice, do you think that I would need to wait stress testing to prevent overheating my system or is it okay to do it now?

    Definitely you should not do the stress test right now, whereas the normal temperature is tending to high.

    First of all, we have to keep the temps in control. Then, if the issue persists, we have to take any further step.
