system freezing all the windows auto upda can't find image
*
Zhello everyone, I intended on posting the below note 2 days ago but my system has since become unusable. The last thing I did was uninstall all the Windows updates that were installed on 2 / 14 and rebooted. When the system started, I got a blue screen of deathd which said something about the system shutting down to prevent further damage and also mentioned memory cache. I tried starting the system two more times and it finally started normally and I got the desktop but then windows started freezing again. I have a system image file backup on external hard drive but when I go to the systems diagnostics menu and select image backup, that hard drive is not listed, how can I use that system image backup to restore my pC? , thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
please pardon my typing, I'm disabled ,hard to type, and using the dictation feature on my Samsung tablet.
original note:
Hello everyone,
I'm having a problem with Windows 7 Professional restore feature and auto updates. This first happened a couple of weeks ago when, after noticing and update had taken place, my PC started freezing after boot up, no matter what program I ran, the system would freeze. I noticed in the system restore that Windows had created its own restore point so I use the restore point I had created a few days earlier and this cleared the problem. I meant to make a note of the update name but forgot.

Yesterday, the same problem happened. The PC ran fine for a while when I first started using it but then froze and when I rebooted the "installing updates" message flashed for a few seconds but I didn't see how many updates it was trying to install and the percentage was only 35% when Windows started and I was prompted for my password. I started System Restore and noticed the following restore points listed:
Date and Time**Description****Type
2/13/2004 11:54:48 a.m.*Windows Update***Critical Update
2/13/2004 3:00:11 a.m.*"**"***"**"
2/12/2014 11:49:34 a.m.*"**" ***"**"
2/2/2014 11:41:48 a.m.*system image restore point *Backup
*
I selected the*2/12/2014*restore point, the PC restarted but then again froze when I tried to start Firefox. I restarted the PC again with the power button and this time went immediately to system restore where I noticed in addition to the restore points above, there were now the following:
2/13/2004 12:13:05 p.m.*Windows Update*Critical Update
2/13/2004 12:05:03 p.m.*Windows Update*Critical Update
*
I tried turning off Windows update thinking it was messing up the restore operation and tried another restore using the*2/2/2014*restore point. This time, the system rebooted and even though I turned off auto updates, installing updates appeared saying updates one through six were being installed. Problem is, the system hung at update number one for about two hours and the HD activity light wasn't flashing. I ended up using the power button to reboot and again went directly to system restore where there was now two additional restore points:
2/13/2004 2:05:47 p.m.*Windows Update*Critical Update
2/13/2004 2:05:10 p.m.*Restore Operation*Undo
*
I tried System Restore once again however this time I got a message "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically. If you recently attached a device such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer…". I clicked View Advanced Options and saw at the bottom of the log
"start up and repair diagnostic details root cause = a patch has prevented the system starting.
As well as
repair action system files integrity check and repair - result = failed (0x490)
*
Frum there I went to System recovery tool options where I tried system restore again but got an error "non-specified error occurred during the system restore, (0x 8000ffff)".
*
I finally restarted the system with the power button in the system booted cleanly giving me a message stating "the restore completed successfully" and it's been running fine ever since.
*
Any idea why this is happening? This is a fairly recent install of Windows as I had to do a clean reinstall a few months back due to an unrelated problem.
*
Thanks for any info you can provide.
