No, very unlikely the PSU caused a problem on the motherboard. But then again, refer to my last post. "Anything possible, always." I wouldn't be too concerned about this at this point, however.

Sounds like WU could have loaded a driver that was just plain out nasty to the system. It happens. It's happened to me on occasion when I erroneously chose to let it update graphics drivers. Avoid drivers from Windows Update unless all other options have already been exhausted. Any soild tech will tell you that.

There are perhaps easier ways to fix the machine. I'd rather not attempt them. Start from scratch and do a complete clean install by formatting to NTFS, while installing. You could choose quick option. Do not do any Windows Updates at all.

Come back and let us know how this went and we can advise on the next step when things are running well. Perform a system restore point here.

From my last post, till now, it has been on, and not locking up. I am currently running a disk check on the hard drive, so far so good.

If it passes, I will try installing Windows Vista 64 bit and see if the problem still occurs on a different operating system....

kind of weird that it has not locked up "While in use"

seems to lock up when left alone. It is not set to sleep, hibernate, shut off monitor, turn on screen saver. It is on high performance power setting to btw.

Wellllllllllllllllllllll, i spoke to soon.

Typing from my personal computer now.

Locked up, and wont boot back up. Back to square 1. Will power on, then power off, then power on and not post any video.

I submitted an RMA for the motherboard, and will ship that off tomorrow. I cant think of anything else it could be.

Bad memory stick? I wouldnt think that would cause a hard lock up.

Dont think its a bad windows update, cause why would a new PSU all of a sudden make it bootup into windows? But then lockup again like before.

I double checked ALL connections, everything is correct.

I see it like this:

yeah, i understand, but how can a windows update effect system bootup? I would understand if it haulted upon starting windows... but at the push of the power button?

I am running a computer with 3 separate internal hard drives: Vista Pro is on one, Windows 7 Pro on one, and Ubuntu on one.

My Vista has run without one lockup or problem for YEARS.
Windows 7 continues to lock up after installing updates; I even uninstalled it and reinstalled it on a different hard drive with the same results.

Windows 7 appears to be hype and nothing more. I will stick to Vista and try to get a refund from Microsoft.

I think we need to have a lawsuit against Microsoft for damaging our computers!

Well, no. Quite simply because I did not intend to mean broken as in "hardware" broken, by MS. I meant broken from a software standpoint. No permanent damage from them.

I have nothing to gain with Microsoft. I haven't really been their greatest fan all the years I've been using their OSes. I have used many flavors of *nix as well. Windows 7, in my opinion, is the closest to perfection an operating system has ever been for an end user.

If it doesn't work well for you, either your hardware is damaged, incompatible or you being end user is doing something wrong. That something wrong could be a real technical reason or even a simple one by just having malware present on your system.

Again, I have absolutely no affiliation with MS, partners or anything like that and have never earned a living at all doing work in IT. You just received a computer enthusiast's opinion and nothing more.

Please start your own thread for two reasons. 1, to be fair to op and so his issues can receive attention without unnecessary interference. And 2, so your issue can get attention on its own.

When posting the dump, please attach it to the post using the paper clip and not a site where people willing to help have you have to wait. Thank you.

Smokkinu, I re-read almost everything of interest in the thread since you got new mobo. I did so first time too but still sort of misuderstood a little bit. I think I understand closer to what's happening there in reality, now.

I change my position on things. Yes, I agree there is a good chance the mobo RMA will help. Seems you have a strange set of circumstances that do not want to be alleviated.

Since you are RMA, please keep us informed on how the new mobo behaves. Still, don't do WU for drivers in any case. Find them on motherboard/graphics/device manufacturers' sites if needed.

Good luck, for real.
