    Random Lockups...HARD lockups

    Ok, so I built a friend a Core i7 920 based system.

    here are the specifics:

    Core i7 920
    ASUS P6T Motherboard
    6GB OCZ DDR3 Memory
    Corsair 750W PSU
    300GB Velociraptor Wstern Digital HDD
    PNY GTX 285 Video Card
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Sometimes, at random times, idle or in use, the PC will lockup, hard. Mouse/Keyboard unresponsive, nothing. Have to power off the machine and reboot.

Event Viewer isnt showing much... is there anything else I can check to see what might be causing this?

Also, havce tried a format and fresh install...no luck.

Testing shows stable (No overclocking at all!) Temps are fine (35-40Deg Celcius) and runs Prime95 without a hiccup, and does not fail. Ran last night for 30 mins straight, no lockup, then went to dinner, come back and its locked up hard.

Upload the minidump to Rapidshare and post it. I'll have a look. If I can't help, possibly others can. H2S04 seems good with this kind of thing.

I have installed Windows 7 TWICE on 2 different hard drives and it does nothing but lock up.

I NEVER had a problem with Vista; I wish I could get Microsoft to buy this JUNK software back so I can continue to use Vista (thank goodness I installed Windows 7 as a 2nd system!)

    WINDOWS 7 IS WORTHLESS HYPE!

Long time user here of MS and other OS. I think it's the best one I've ever used by a large margin.

Any misconfigured or otherwise unhealthy machine running any OS is going to crash. Your post pretty much amounts to spam and is not helpful or respectful to the O.P. trying to alleviate his issue.

If you would like help, please start your own thread.

Do you notice anything when the lockups occur, like disk activity or internet activity?

Did you load anything after the clean install, such as drivers for the motherboard or video?

Do you have anything running that periodically accesses something?

Does it do the same thing in safe mode? Try unplugging the internet connection. While you are off the net, try turning off any protection programs.

Try using MSconfig.exe to turn off startup programs to see if it helps.

    Ok torrent,

I tried to get him to get those files, but now the PC wont post video when you start it up. This happened earlier, and I had him open the case, check for any loose wires, remove the video card, and re-seat it to make sure maybe it did not get nudged during shipping. Etc... when he put it together, video posted and we were able to reinstall windows 7 over the phone with him. Then it locked up again after a little while (Not during install, about an hour after everything)

Now, it is doing this again (Monitor says so DVI Signal, and blue button turns to amber) and it wont post video.

He says when it starts, all the fans run, but the CPU Fan starts, then stops, then starts again. but no video to the monitor. Attempted to have him re-seat the video card again, but wont post video.

I am having him purchase another GTX 285 tomorrow locally, and install that to see if this may be the culprit, and he can return the current card to me in the mail. What are your thoughts? or anybody else.

nothing, all USB devices connected do not work, lights on the front of the PC do not turn on, and no activity whatsoever when the lockup occurs.

Nothing was loaded as far as drivers, etc.

see above post for current status....wont post video upon startup, so cannot even see the Bios.

the monitor is good, tried it on another PC, no issues.
