Buffered memory contains a buffer to assist the chipset deal with the large electrical load required when the system has a lot of memory. Much like registered modules, buffered modules are typically used in servers and other mission-critical systems where it is extremely important that the data is properly handled.

Unbuffered memory deals directly with the chipset controller with nothing in between as they communicate.

Try running only one pair and see if the crashes occur. I would run with the UNbuffered pair.

Good news,

Running buffered or unbuffered is usually a personal choice from experience, I've always ran buffered, Bill likes unbuffered.

Run your testing with each pair as you suggest and see if either makes a difference in performance and stability, then stay with the better pair and contact Patriot.

If they can't match the pair you want to stay with, see if they will exchange all four sticks that do match because the ones you get might be from a different production run.

Maybe they'll swap all four for no charge for your trouble, wouldn't hurt to ask.

As Steve [Anak] mentioned buffered/unbuffered - it's a choice. His try one pair and then the other pair is also good advice.

I'm also wondering if the slot makes a difference - which memory gets accessed first. If you want to experiment, you could try the buffered in paired slots 1 & 2, and the unbuffered in paired slots 3 & 4

----> check your Mobo, sometimes the paired slots are 1 & 3, 2 & 4.
