    BSOD atikmpag.sys error

    Good day.

I've got a 2-yr old laptop. When I got home last night, my brother said he couldn't play Skyrim cause it kept getting BSOD. Earlier that day, I was able to use it without any problems.

I booted the laptop and got a BSOD that says I've got an atikmpag.sys error; the display driver didn't load correctly.

    Things I did:
    1. I loaded Safe Mode and scanned for viruses, found nothing.
    2. Looked if the file existed, I found it.
    3. I tried the Last Known Configuration, but it only worked once. Later on, I kept getting BSOD.
    4. My graphics drivers are up-to-date. I uninstalled it and then let Windows install the drivers. After letting it restart by itself, I was able to reach the desktop. I decided to restart it just to check if it will boot without any problems, it got BSOD again.

Right now, I'm able to run my laptop with the graphics driver disabled. I've only disabled the Mobile Intel HD Graphics but when I boot the laptop, I get a problem with my AMD Radeon HD 7450M. It says that either I don't have it installed or it's not up-to-date.

I've read that it's either a driver problem or my hardware got fried. If anyone can tell me where to look and how I'll know if the video card's broken, please do. It's a Dell Inspiron N4050.

    Thank you.

Update your display driver from Dell. It is too old.

Let us know about any BSOD after updating it.

I updated the Intel driver with the one their site was giving me. I didn't install it before because when I extracted it, it was labeled for a different laptop. I checked the driver version in the Device Manager just to make sure and it got updated. When I restarted, the AMD driver got uninstalled or something like that. I reinstalled that one then restarted. When I checked the drivers again, the Intel one got reverted back. I restarted again and I got BSOD again. After that, it was a cycle of restart, BSOD, and checking what might make it go BSOD until I decided to just reinstall the Intel update and post the dump files I have right now.

The driver is not updated at all.
    Code:
    fffff880`04134000 fffff880`04189000 atikmpag T (no symbols)

You sure that there is no available update that is better than this one?

Yes, that's the latest from Dell. I even downloaded a driver from Intel and after installing it, the Date Modified is Monday, ‎December ‎05, ‎2011, ‏‎9:12:16 PM
I still haven't found one from AMD cause I get an incompatible issue from their downloader.

    Attachment 310250

I checked the Catalyst Install Manager I got from Dell. Even when I untick the Intel Media Components, it seems the driver gets "installed" because when I checked the Device Manager, the version becomes 8.930, the same one for the AMD Display driver. But the Intel driver listed there is shown as the latest one (8.15.10.2342)

    Attachment 310251

And when I install the latest for Intel after that (unticked or not), the AMD Display driver seems to be removed (as seen from the screenshot earlier.)

I'm wondering why it started acting up now when I didn't have any problems after a few reformats back then. My last format was October last year.

If the latest driver from Dell causes BSODs, and any other driver does not work there, you need to contract Dell.
