    BSOD after installing display drivers

Greetings, yesterday while using my laptop it froze. I was watching a youtube video on my HP TouchSmart tm2 which comes with an ATI 5450 HD switchable graphic card, after while I decided to poweroff the laptop but after it finished showing the windows logo all it showed was a black screen.

I got into windows using the Safe Mode and tried to make a system restore, but it didn't work. I tried unistalling the display drivers and was able to get in normal mode, but as soon as I installed again the display drivers the black screen appeared again. So i entered in safe mode and a windows popped up saying a blue screen had occurred.

I tried doing a clean install of windows 7, install the video drivers but again the same thing happened and so i went into safe mode an disable the ATI drivers and that way I was able to enter windows normal mode using only the intel graphics.

I would like help to know if it is that the video card is damaged or is a driver problem or if the problem is something else.

I apologize for my bad English and thank you very much

Hello and welcome Zplayer mate where did you get the drivers from? I do not personally like the Windows feature and this is the one you want Mobile 7 - 64

Try tis and if you can get back into safe mode try these

Hi, tried to install the drivers from the page you linked but it said that it couldn't find the drivers for my laptop and instead recommended to download the drivers from the laptop manufacturer, so i went and downloaded the drivers from HP, installed them and did the others two steps you mentioned.

I'm still getting the black screen once I try to get into windows normal mode and went I go to save mode it still says that a blue screen have occurred. Now in despair mode I tried login using the Enable low-resolution video mode and discovered that while it still showed the black screen I was able to hear went windows loaded and was even able to loggin using my user password. Should I take this as there is still hope ?

Always hope Zplayer I am now wondering if one of the switchable graphic features has died. But at least something has woken up.

Does this happen if you run on mains power and battery power because it theory the graphics should change to whatever power supply you are using to conserve the battery power.

Try powering up with the battery out and see what happens. If this doesn't work then we might have to run something else as in a memtest which which will take some time to do.

Z what model is it mate so we can find where that graphics is as most laptops I have fixed it comes soldered into the motherboard - it isn't like a removable one like a desktop GPU card..

See my pic it isn't an HP but is typical - having said that some are removable as in network cards but none that I have seen. .
