BSOD while gaming on tv connected via hdmi; nvlddmkm.sys

Hi there;

I recently got a lenovo z710 ideapad to replace my previous laptop and serve as a substantial increase in gaming potential. I usually game with my computer connected to an lcd tv with an hdmi cord. However, with the new laptop I am having incredibly constant BSOD issues.

The BSOD has specifically occurred in Bioshock: Infinite and Deus Ex: HR (I have not yet tested any other games significantly). I am normally able to play fine for some time, however after gaming for a variable amount of time my computer blue screens after trying to load a new map or level (either by fast travelling, moving from one map to another, or just from loading a savegame).

In the case of Deus Ex, I can quickly and reliably produce the error, if I run the game and load a save, then quit to desktop and repeat, the BSOD will occur within 2-3 cycles. There was no problem when running the game while not connected to my tv, even after 10 or so cycles.

So far, I've tried the following based on what I could find on the net:
-Verified integrity of the affected games
-re-download affected games
-search error codes on Microsoft's website (no luck)
-Used the Windows ErrorChecking tool to check for hard disk errors
-Complete un-installation of NVidia drivers and safe-mode wipe using Display-Driver-Uninstaller tool

Nothing seems to have any affect. I think (hope) it's a software issue, as the computer did originally come with Windows 8, which I removed and replaced with the Windows 7 Professional x64 it is currently running, and I may have broken something while doing that.

I've attached the most recent error log from the event viewer as well as the usual DM Log.

From the sounds of it, you have a problem with your graphics card, and because it's a laptop it sounds like an overheating issue. You have a bugcheck of 0x116 which is a video tdr error which is generally caused by a faulty graphics card. Download Speccy to monitor your temperatures. Then post a screenshot here.

Then can you please run a stress test with furmark by following these instructions.

I downloaded and ran Speccy, though I am not sure what you mean by screenshot, is it just a screenshot of the main page? In that case I attached a screenshot of what I see. Most notably, Speccy seems unable to acquire my graphics card's temperature.

I will run the stress test as soon as I get home tonight, but if the problem is a faulty graphics card, what would my next step be? I am presumably still under warranty as I only bought the computer a month ago, however as I changed the OS should I be contacting Lenovo or NVidia for repair?

Alright, so I have tried to run Furmark, and the results are not promising . . .

I installed the app and got the settings to match those in your linked tutorial, however when I clicked run BURN-IN test, the following happened:

-A command prompt window opens and does nothing perceptible for about five seconds.

-My computer black screens for 5 seconds, before shutting down and then restarting.

OR

-My computer blue screens (no black screen) and displays the same error information as when I run games.

I have no other data to give you, as there aren't any save logs of any kind from Furmark (presumably because of how quick it crashes).

Oh, and I just loaded up Furmark while typing this to check the names of the settings? After ~20 of just being open (not running any tests) my computer blue screened again.

Yes, you have 0x116 bugchecks which are generally pointed to graphics cards failing. Can you remove the graphics card and use the Intel HD graphics chipset instead.

Running Furmark with the NVidia graphics card disabled is fine at least blue screen wise, however it was running so slowly (max fps of 5) that I did not complete the full test, it did run for about half an hour with no problems however.

I guess that it's safe to say that it is a hardware issue? I've only had the computer for a month and the BSOD have been occurring since I bought it.

Yeah that definitely sounds like a graphics card issue. The FPS doesn't matter don't worry about it. 5FPS is fine for Intel integrated graphics. it's puts your GPU load on 99% so it will be slow.

If your PC is still under warranty then I would advice taking it back and getting a replacement or refund. If it isn't then you'll have to buy a new GPU. You said your PC is a month old so you should be eligible for a replacement.
