    BSOD randomly, although more often when using Vuze

    Hi!

    I have been receiving BSODs for a while now and finally decided to do something to stop it. What has made it difficult to troubleshoot is, when looking at the Mini-Dumps, there is a different error message each time. I have attached the ZIP file from DM Log collector as advised.

    The BSOD happens randomly, even when I'm not doing anything. For example, I booted my machine up last night and when I woke up this morning, it had a BSOD. I didn't have anything unusual happening. I have noticed that it seems to happen more often when I am running Vuze, which makes me think there could be some hardware controller that isn't working right.

    I should mention that this computer is my music workstation, meaning I have a ton of audio programs installed. I have a suspicion that maybe one of them is causing the problem.

    What I have done so far:

    1.) Since I noticed one of the BSOD reference Memory, I did a memory test, let it run a few passes and it came up with about 2 errors. I will probably replace my memory so hopefully those will go away. But since there are numerous other BSOD errors, I don't think this is the only problem.

    2.) I tried running Driver Verifier but it kept crashing my Windows. I made sure to uncheck Driver Verifier's own drivers but it still kept crashing. I looked at the mini-dump after and it only referenced the Driver Verifier.

    Here is some information on my hardware::

    AMD Phenom II X4 955 processor 3.20 GHz
    8GB RAM
    Motherboard by Gigabyte Technology
    Motherboard = GA-MA790GPT-UD3H
    Hard dries = Hitachi HDS723015BLA642 ATA Device, ST1000DM003-9YN162 ATA Device

    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Right, you have an ntfs file system bugcheck which indicates something has been corrupted inside the ntfs.sys driver. It is generally caused by a corrupt partition or a faulty disk drive.

    Please run a disk check by following these instructions.

    Disk Check

    Then please run SeaTools to scan for a failing disk drive. Follow these instructions.

    SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use

    Code:
    *******************************************************************************
    *                                                                             *
    *                        Bugcheck Analysis                                    *
    *                                                                             *
    *******************************************************************************

    Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.

    BugCheck 24, {1904fb, fffff8800318c888, fffff8800318c0e0, fffff8800122ec15}

    Probably caused by : Ntfs.sys ( Ntfs!NtfsAcquireExclusiveFcb+65 )
    You have memory corruption as well which can be caused by bad drivers but we'll focus on that later. How many passes did you run memtest for? You should run it for at least 8 passes. Follow these instructions.

    RAM - Test with Memtest86+

    Code:
    *******************************************************************************
    *                                                                             *
    *                        Bugcheck Analysis                                    *
    *                                                                             *
    *******************************************************************************

    Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.

    BugCheck 4E, {2, 135600, 22ffff, 1}

    Probably caused by : memory_corruption ( nt!MiUnlinkPageFromLockedList+8d )
    However, your most likely cause is Sonic (or Roxio I believe the other name is if my memory serves me right) and Daemon Tools. These are very common causes for BSODs. Please remove both of them via the control panel.

    Code:
    *******************************************************************************
    *                                                                             *
    *                        Bugcheck Analysis                                    *
    *                                                                             *
    *******************************************************************************

    Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.

    I think I did about 2-3 passes with the MemTest because I was in a bit of a time crunch when I did it. I will try letting it run for at least 8.

    I went ahead and deleted Daemon Tools. Regarding Sonic Solutions/Roxio, I don't have any programs that are called that. I did some Googling and found that the driver seems to relate to CD/DVD burning. The only program I have for that is Nero version 10 & 11. Could it be coming from that? Nero 10 especially has a lot of tools/bundled programs so I'm wondering if I need to just remove it (and stick with version 11 for the time being).

    I will do the Disk Check/Seatools later on. Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this! This place has helped restore my faith in the internet :)

    I would remove all the CD/DVD burning software unless you use it.

    I ran the Check Disk along with uninstalling the entire Nero 10 suite of programs. I have let Vuze run for several days now, 24/7 and so far, no more Blue Screens. I'm optimistic but in the past, sometimes it would work for a week before failing again, so we will see if that was the ultimate root cause. However, I will still run the other tests you mentioned.

    Unless I get another BSOD, I will report back in a week or so to mark this as solved. Thanks!

    Since I last posted, I only received a BSOD one time and it was due to a Memory issue. Since I already found Memory errors when I did a MemTest, I am not too concerned.

    I ran SeaTools on all hard drives and found no errors there. I really believe the issue was due to Daemon tools being installed. Vuze ran for several weeks straight, 24/7 without any problems which is unprecedented! I marked this as solved.

    Thank you for the help!
