BSOD/ PC Lockups when playing games, multiple errors

Hey guys I've been having an issue for about 2 months now, basically when I'm playing games (WoW / LoL / Titanfall) my PC will randomly freeze, then my monitor will just shutdown. I then have to manually shutdown my PC using the power button as it remains turned on even after the monitor shuts down.

On reboot I get an error saying "Display driver stopped responding but has recovered" and after checking the event viewer I have multiple errors before each unexpected shutdown. Also sometimes on reboot after 5 mins the PC will blue screen resulting in the same display driver error but it hasn't done that for a few weeks now.

Here are the errors that appear prior to the shutdown:

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {C97FCC79-E628-407D-AE68-A06AD6D8B4D1}and APPID.

I figured it was a hardware issue but I found a work around where I could system restore back a few days then I'll have no problems until a few days into the future again, basically the crashes happen the same time every few days. Then I'd system restore again and get stuck in this vicious cycle of crashes while trying different solutions which have not worked as of yet.

I had no issues for about 3 weeks after the first few instances, then I was away for 5 days and when I returned the problems started again. I tried uninstalling my graphic drivers which again temporarily added a few days without issue (which started me on a system restore cycle). So I figured that since the errors seem to happen when the PC "catches up" to where I system restored, its a software issue rather than hardware. Also my card does not run hot, I have run CPU-Z to check temperatures and it's always running at normal temps and I have recently cleared the inside of all dust etc

Now today I noticed there was a windows update in the middle of the system restore cycle, so I uninstalled the updates to see if they caused the problem and everything worked fine for a while but then the crash happened again so I went back to a system restore - which fixed the problem for the rest of the day.

Then I logged on today and after about 5 minutes the system hangs when playing WoW (I should mention this problem has never happened when not playing a game, it has never stopped responding doing work / browsing the web etc). This is strange since it usually lasts 3-4 days before it hangs again and this time I have a new error:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000116 (0xfffffa800450d010, 0xfffff88007159258, 0xffffffffc0000001, 0x0000000000000003).

I've uploaded the .dmp file produced after the recent crash (<1 hour ago) and one from 2 months ago which was one of the first crashes. I'm pretty stumped on what the issue is to be honest I've seen so many theories and potential solutions but the crashes are so unpredictable I have no clue where to begin.

I'm hoping you guys have some insight on the problem, sorry if this post is quite long winded I wanted to make sure I included as many details as possible.

    Thank you in advance!

Oh and I've added the event viewers of all the critical errors following each shutdown so you can see the frequency of when the issues have started. Thanks!

    Hi ,

Uninstall your installed version of the display driver.

Then clean up any possible leftover.

Then install version 13.9 WHQL only.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.

    Hey Gknrsy,

I've followed each step and have just installed the 13.9 WHQL, so now I'll just wait to see if any more problems arise.

Thank you for the helpful reply.

Unfortunately today I'm still getting problems, I have crashed once in game and once just sitting idle on the desktop both resulting in having to manually reboot.

Also when loading up this page my screen turned to black and I received a "AMD Display Driver has stopped responding but has recovered" error.

Hoping there is some more potential solutions to try out to sort this issue, thanks!

    Hi again ,

Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Run it for around 30 minutes.

    Please post back the results.

Hey Gknrsy, I ran the stress test for 10 minutes and the GPU temp reached 89 degrees before the program froze and stopped responding. The monitor flashed black (the same as what happens when a driver stops responding) then reloads to the program white screened, which I then closed.

I received this error in the event viewer (the very same error I received this morning too)

"Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

    Hope this helped.

I should also mention that my PC was originally overclocked to 4.2 GHz from 3.3 but I removed the overclock when I first started noticing problems. I'm not sure if there's still an overclock causing the problems though as the CPU-Z notes its @ 3.3Ghz but the windows system tab shows this:

    "Intel (R) Core(TM) i5-2500k CPU @ 3.30GHz 3.60GHz"

Also my card never runs past 60 degrees when playing games, the fan was going overtime during the stress test, don't think the card has ever been pushed to that extreme before at least certainly not when compared to the previous crashes when the card is running at around 45-50

Hey thanks for the link, I've tried everything that microsoft recommends regarding the display driver not responding error and nothing has worked.

The bugcheck error has only appeared once out of the 25 or so crashes so far, there are many different solutions in that thread I'll have to take a look at tommorow when I'm not so tired :) this is definitely a stubborn problem, I've tried quite a few things already.

As far as today goes after the initial crash this morning when I first posted, after a manual restart after increasing the GPU voltage to 1.2 (from 1.05) I haven't had any problems but that's not really out of the ordinary. This issue is very unpredictable to be honest, sometimes it doesn't happen all day then the next restart it'll happen 3 times in an hour then cease for a few more days. Weird stuff.

Thanks guys for the replies though!

Hey guys I've had a few blue screens today and I'm also having issues with system restore. Basically get an error when trying to restore back a week (possibly due to the driver uninstalls etc) which isn't really an issue since it was just a temp fix anyway.

    Blue screen today basically was:

Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed.

STOP: 0x00000116 (again) and atikmpag.sys appeared on the blue screen also.

I've tried a few more things in the thread Golden linked but I'm still getting problems, hoping someone has some more information as it seems to be getting worse. Previously it'll only crash during games but now it's doing it randomly on the desktop after a fresh boot.

    Results of the memory test:

WARNING: Your card can be not compatible with this test! If multiple errors will found, try test with onscreen buffer usage or wthout of ignoring colors bit mask.
    Changing video mode to 640x480x16...OK

[4/28/2014 6:13:33 PM] Pass completed (0 errors found).

I tried running a driver scanner and it gave me 17 drivers that were out of date, could that be causing the issue?
