Great rig you have there I wanted an X79 but decided to wait for Haswell E, basically to see how quad channel ram does. Intel says there will be a performance increase too, but to Intel 5% is a big increase. I used to have the same case you have. It's a nice case. I'm going to wait to see the CPUz screenshots you send before anything else. I believe you have either ram problems or Motherboard problems. If you will hang with me, we'll find out, but it may take a lot of memtest to determine which. With all the ram slots on the x79, it makes for a lot more testing.

All of you ram appears to be set to proper XMP values. Just make sure in BIOS you set the Dimm Voltage to 1.5V. This is the second time I have had to type this but here goes. I understand you ran all ram with all slots populated and got errors. I also understand you ran each stick in each slot with no errors. I assume you ran all those tests for 8 full Passes. Just so you will know, many people think we are asking them to run the same test 8 times. That is not the case. Each pass consists of 10 tests. Each pass tests a different part of the ram and each test tests a different thing. So, each test is different and it requires a minimum of 8 passes to fully test the ram. If you did not run the tests for 8 full passes please let me know. I suspect a motherboard Dimm Slot problem. They can be quite time consuming to figure out.

Let me give you an example of how difficult it can be. I had a board which acted much like yours. It would pass the ram sticks one at a time but would fail with the slots populated. After numerous hours of testing, I finally figured out if slot 2 was populated, then any other ram stick I put in any slot would fail. If slot 2 was empty, I could run the other 3 sticks for 10 passes and no failure. So, I'm sure you know where we are going with this.

I would like you to pick 2 sticks that you are sure are good. Populate Dimm Slot 1 and Dimm slot 2 and run memtest86 for 8 full passes or until it fails. Even 1 failure you can stop the test. If they both pass, take the stick from slot 2 and put it in slot 3 and run it, do the same for slot 4. Hopefully one slot will through an error, and we will know which one it is and you can call Gigabyte. Now, it's up to you. You could call them now and see what they say. Or you can run all these tests and have the ammunition you need to prove it is a motherboard problem.

My experience with Gigabyte was with a graphics card. The rep I spoke with seemed to not be interested at all in diagnosing the problem. he told me, it sounds like it could be a hardware problem so RMA it. I got the impression he didn't care, just RMA it. Now, I do have a lot of experience with several motherboard companies and RMAs. Just because you RMA it does not mean your problem will be solved by the board you receive back. You decide what you would rather do. If you RMA it, I can tell you how to test it the easy way when you get the return.

Use CPUz on yoyr girlfriends computer to gather the details so Steve can determine that.

jay, I don't see any reason it shouldn't work. When you change it, go into bios and see that it is recognized and the timings should be just about the same as yours, if needed adjust the frequency to 1333 from your present 1600. See if it works. You should be able to put them into any 2 slots, and it will work in dual channel mode rather than your current quad channel mode. If you have any problems, let us know.
