    BSOD When using XBMC

    Hi all,

I am having a problem with my Intel NUC. After I upgraded XBMC from 12.3 (I think it was) to 13.0 I am getting BSODs. I only get the BSODs in XBMC, but XBMC contributes to about 95% of this PC's usage so I dunno if it is coincidence or specifically XBMC related.

After getting the constant BSODs, I downgraded XBMC back to 12.3 and am still getting the BSODs. Can you please help? I am attaching the output from WinDbg and WhoCrashed in this thread. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

    Hi there,

I'll be honest with you, I'm getting nothing from your dumps that you haven't already stated,

    Code:
    Debugging Details:
    ------------------

    CUSTOMER_CRASH_COUNT: 1

    DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: VISTA_DRIVER_FAULT

    BUGCHECK_STR: 0x133

    PROCESS_NAME: XBMC.exe

    CURRENT_IRQL: d
Can you update your system specs using the blue link in my sig, I can see you are using Win 8.1.

I see you mentioned the newer version of XBMC is what started the crashes and they continue after rolling back to the previous version.

Can you run this and report back it's findings,

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Also the following test,

    chkdsk /r

Hey, thank you for your response derekimo. I am attaching my CBS.log file. When I ran the sfc/scannow that is where it said the output was. It did say it found and fixed some corrupt files. Please see attached.

I also ran the chkdsk /r you suggested and windows successfully checked for errors and said it was good to go w/out any errors.

Sorry about that, sometimes threads slip through or I end doing real life stuff.

So the SFC found and fixed files? If you run it again does it say no integrity violations?

If you are still getting crashes we need the info from running the tool,

    Additional information is required.

    1. Download this file to your desktop or other convenient location,

    Download

    2. Double click on the file to run it.

    3. Locate the .ZIP file created on your desktop, and upload it here in your next reply.

Can you also fill in your system specs,

System Info - See Your System Specs

Another thing, I noticed a new version was released a couple days ago, have you tried that?

No worries. I know people get caught up in things. I just appreciate your help.

I ran sfc /scannow again and my output was 'Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.'

I am attaching the zip file you requested and I have downloaded the newest XBMC and will give it a try but I downloaded the 13.1 release candidate and was still having the BSODs. Granted it was an RC and not a stable version.

Thank you for filling in your specs and providing the other info.

I am still not getting any clue from your latest dump, I'll keep researching and post any info I can find.

Have you made sure windows is fully up to date?

    What AV are you using?

We may want to try driver verifier to get the driver to jump out at us.

       Information
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Driver Verifier will cause your computer to run very sluggishly - this is normal. What it is trying to do is force your system to BSOD and isolate the offending driver/s. When it does, reboot, disable driver verifier, reboot as normal and upload the new dmp file/s here.

I recommend creating a system restore point before turning on driver verifier:
    System Restore Point - Create

If your system fails to boot to desktop once driver verifier is enabled, turn it off by booting into Safe Mode:
    Safe Mode
