Windows 7: Random BSOD

Random BSOD

I keep getting a blue screen error. It happens most often during gaming, however it has also happened at idle or why just browsing the internet. I've scanned my computer using Avira antivirus and SpyBot. It has run stable for the past month or so, but started having problems last Thursday (10/23).

As far as I know all my drivers are current. I attached the minidump from the last two crashes in case that is any help.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop
Windows 7 x64
T8300 Processor
Intel 965 Family Chipset
4GB Ram
Here is the message I got last time it happened:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 50
BCP1: FFFFF87FEFCB25C0
BCP2: 0000000000000008
BCP3: FFFFF87FEFCB25C0
BCP4: 0000000000000005
OS Version: 6_1_7600
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 256_1

I need this thing to run reliably because I need it for school work, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hey I went and tried to update as many drivers as possible. Intel just released a new driver for x64 for the Intel 965 Chipset and I downloaded and updated that.

So far it has been running decent, but I wont know for a couple days before I believe the problem is completely fixed.
However thank you very much for the help!

BSOD...again :(

It ran pretty solid all week with some gaming, and A LOT of use for java programming without any problem.s
But then I was playing a game, Battlefield 2 this afternoon. After about 5 minutes the game stopped responding, so I closed and restarted the game. Another 5 minutes and a BSOD

I have attached the mini-dump file from the latest failure. I'm going to look around see if I can find more driver updates for stuff I did not think of...
But in the mean time if someone could take a look that would be great.

Update: I downloaded and ran the trial of driver checker and it did not find any outdated drivers.

I'm late for work, but noticed the reference to Driver Checker.
It's OK to use the trial version - but never ever pay for it!
One of the things that we do here is help users to do the updates for free.
Good luck!

With the presence of HAL.DLL in the stack text, I've got to wonder if this is a driver issue or an incompatibility. Have you installed anything new?
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

Older drivers on your system that should be updated:
Code:
stwrt64.sys Thu Sep 13 11:30:19 2007 - probably Sigmatel Audio drivers
OEM02Dev.sys Wed Oct 10 22:29:24 2007 - Creative video capture driver (see next entry)
OEM02Vfx.sys Mon Mar 05 05:55:47 2007 - probably Advanced Video FX Filter Driver (Win2K based). Manufacturer: EyePower Games Pte. Ltd. http://www.eyepowergames.com/

I'm back!

Ok I updated the drivers you pointed out. The sound one the newest I could get was a 32bit Vista update, but still an update. The other 2 parts were something to do with my integrated webcam? I downloaded drivers for it from dell...

I'm trying to think of what I've installed lately, this is what I've installed over the last month or so?

Battlefield 2

JCreator LE 4.5 - Have been using it excessively for java with no problems

Visual Studio Pro 2008 - Have been using for web design and been messing around with visual basic quite a bit, no problems

And no I didn't pay for driver checker, I was just trying to get an easy way to get the names of the drivers. But it didn't even find anything, so fairly useless.

See attached for the msinfo32 file. Again thanks for all the help and suggestions. I wish I could do a lot of this myself; but even as a CS major I still know very little/nothing about debugging with windows.

Several things to try while waiting for more BSOD's...

Try the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor (free from here: Download details: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor )

Uninstall BF2, there's a number of errors about it in the MSINFO32 error log.

Run the Driver Verifier (which should force a crash with more info). Here's how to set it up:
Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Automatically select unsigned drivers" and click "Next"
If no drivers show up, then select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.
If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line.

BSOD at seemingly random times, memory dump blaming random drivers
I've been plagued by odd problems since making this custom build about a month ago, but the latest is the increasing frequency of BSODs.
