Hello, I have been having on ongoing issues with atikmdag.sys. This all started with BF3 after playing for 10 minutes, than it happened again, after about 1 hour and 30 minutes in. Then I move onto Borderlands 2 a few days later, and about 2 hours in, same exact BSOD. Then after about 3 hours in game again, I get a black screen this time for about 5 seconds, then game returns to normal. And now today, just installed FarCry3 and BSOD within first 10 minutes. For the last month I have been looking around the web for a fix, installed latest drivers, clean-installed them, installed beta drivers. None of that worked and I could not find a thread that is similar to mine with a fix. The closest thing I found to my problem is this thread:

http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/297557-bsod-atikmdag-sys-while-playing-some-games.html

Even then it was recommended that he switch to a Nvidia Card. My computer is a custom build, not even 2 months old and I'm quite depressed as it may look like I'm out $200 dollars.

Here are my PC specs:

FX-6300
M5A97 LE R2.0
G SKILL Ripjawz
Rosewill Green Series 630w
Gigabyte 270x Windforce 2GB

I should also point out that this computer does not have overheating problems, as CPUID HWMonitor shows CPU never reaching past 49C and GPU never going past about 69C. I also ran a test (Windows Diagnostic RAM Tester Something) and it showed no errors in my RAM as some forums suggested. At this point I am very desperate to find a fix. I just want to know if this is a hardware issues or still a software issue. Otherwise my best bet is to send the 270x into Gigabyte for repairs.

-Thanks!

Welcome to 7 Forums.

STOP 0xA0000001 appears to be a custom bugcheck coded into ATI drivers. That proves to be the case here.

Code:

 atikmpag+0x92de
It is a recent driver, although possibly not the latest.

Code:

start end module name

Download the 13.9 driver from here then use AMD Uninstall Utility to remove all traces of your current driver, CCC etc.

Open Windows updates, in the left column click change settings, then in the drop down box select 'Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them'. The purpose of this is to keep Windows Updates from automatically installing a driver.

View attachment 322753

Reboot and install the 13.9 driver.

   Note
When installing choose 'Advanced' or 'Custom' (whichever option is available, just not Express) and uncheck everything except the video driver.

Thank you, I will try this now. I never really figured to try any of the older drivers. I will post back with news shortly.

Looks like the link you provided had all the files except for the actual video driver. I will go to AMD's website and get the 3.9 driver from there.

Ok, neither one includes the actual video driver. I took a picture of the install screen. I apologize if I am missing something obvious. I did try installing it and deselecting what I could but their seems to be no trace of a video driver being installed. I just went back and uninstalled the 2 things it did install.

Also, why 13.9? Just wondering why not 13.4 or 13.1 etc. Is there something specific with 13.9?

Hmmm, so I'm still confused as to why there is no video driver option in the previous versions... I might do some research myself, but I will be heading to bed soon.

Hi Chives.

If you cannot install 13.9 WHQL on the R9 200 series GPU, you may try any version from 13.12 WHQL and higher. Let us know whether the BSODs are continuing with multiple versions of the display driver or not.

I won't be getting home for a while here so I won't be able to test any other drivers, but I do think that my power supply could defiantly be an issue.

Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB TOXIC Video Cards in CrossFire - Power Consumption Test

This shows the power consumption and a it defiantly goes all the up to 500w. If that is the case, then this may be an easy fix. I just need to get a spare power supply. I will try other drivers though when I arrive home. Thank you for all the help so far.

Oh forgive me, I just realized it said crossfire, in that case could the power supply still be an issue. I do seem to get the BSOD under heavy load or and games that seem to put more of a stress on the system. I did run a 3D test about a week straight for 3 hours and no BSOD.

Also here is a test with only one card:

AnandTech Portal | The AMD Radeon R9 270X & R9 270 Review: Feat. Asus & HIS

I would imagine that my 630W PSU would be enough for the whole system.

I've no experience of Rosewill PSUs so I can't really give a definitive answer, although 630W should be plenty.

Yep Boozad I have looked them up before and I really am not that sure of how good they stack up against the Corsairs and Seasonics as you know there are many manufacturers for any brand.
This is quite a good ref for seeing who makes what PSU Review Database just hit on the brand model/s and see what the OEM is to see who makes it.
Rosewills are listed and I see they are listed a lot in the US Newegg site but again I am not sure they are that good - perhaps one of the US members knows more about them.

I think Chives should work through the components with the extreme calculator and see what it shows as the minimum and the recommended.

Personally I always go for a bit of overkill and again if it were me would aim at 700 - 750 watts to have plenty of elbow room.

PS I just did a very rough calculate and put in what Chives has got plus some things like 4x fans etc because only he knows exactly what there is and I came up with ballpark figures of 433 min and 483 recommended, and I am sure that would be higher if we knew what components there were precisely.:)
