    2 different kinds of BSOD (x00124 and System Thread Exception x007e)

    A week or two ago I came onto the forums because I had a hal.dll .00124 BSOD, and a friendly guy helped me figure out that it was one of my graphics card drivers that was causing it. I updated the driver and didn't have any problems. Yesterday, though, I had the SAME type of BSOD, though I don't know if it was caused by the same driver. TODAY, I got an entirely different one, saying "system thread exception".

    I don't know if I should post a thread for each individual BSOD since they seem to have different causes? Maybe the mods could answer that?

    Anywho, I've uploaded the proper zip file onto this post, but I don't know if it only covers the most recent BSOD, or would also have info on the one yesterday. Anywho would be greatly appreciated!

    The 7e bugcheck seems to be caused by the AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series driver and it doesn't seem to have been updated. The 124 bugcheck reports a problem with the CPU Level1 Cache

    1, Update your BIOS:

    BiosMajorRelease = 8

    4, Uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware.

    5, Use the Avast Uninstall Utility to completely uninstall Avast and then download and install Microsoft Security Essentials.

    Alright, a couple things:

    1. I *think*(?) that I have properly updated the AMD Radeon HD driver. Would the USB filter, IO driver, and audio device be a part of that download (it was a bunch of driver downloads)

    2. I went to the ASUS website to try and update that BIOS, and it gave me a .zip file for the update, but the file was like .ROM and I couldn't open it, so maybe I'm missing a step somewhere. Also, I'm scared of updating BIOS in genera.

    3. Are Superantispyware and Avast really that bad? Is Microsoft Security essentials good enough?

    2, Download Asus Update Utility, install it and then use it to update the BIOS with the ROM-file.

    3, Avast and Superantispyware are known to cause BSoDs, uninstalling them will not solve your current problem but it will probably make your system more stable in the future.
