Checked my event viewer this morning after booting up and have this "Service Control Manager" error: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: vsmraid
It appears to be related to the VIA controller.
What does it mean? Is this because I disabled the VIA RAID controller?
In the event log I also keep getting numerous occurrences of this kernel-event tracing error:
Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D
I've read elsewhere that it's okay to ignore this and that it is related to MS Security Essentials (which I only installed to remove Avast and make sure Avast wasn't the source of my BSODs)
On a good note I'm not seeing the blue screens anymore but I'm concerned about it hanging up on shut down.

It probably is. If you aren't going to use it, the best thing to do is remove it. The computer during post, recognizes what is plugged into the slot, but because it is disabled, it cant start it, so you get an error. I'm pretty sure that's what's happening.

I do use it when I'm in XP. Is there a better solution to connect the Zip drive? It is IDE only.
What about the MS OOBE error? Do you think it's safe to switch back to Avast?

OK, but I think that is what that error is. I'm not sure what the OOBE error is, it's usually some type of installation error. OOBE is out of the box experience so is usually an installation error of some type. I have no idea what it is for, but I'll see if I can find out. You can try uninstalling MSE and installing Avast, if you want to for a test.

Ok, it is a MSE error where one of the files is corrupt, but it still runs fine. We won't worry about it if you are uninstalling it anyway. Have you had any more, BSODs? if you have upload the dump files.

When you get time, check your device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and see if it still says raid driver or if it has changed to AHCI driver.

There is not entry in device manager for IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. It just shows storage controllers and it looks exactly as the screenshot above. Why wouldn't it? Nothing has changed hardware wise since I uploaded that screen.
The last BSOD I had was on 07/21. Since then I have had the system hang on shutdown twice and reboot once because the power in my house blinked off.
I will reboot and use my camera to capture the boot screen. It says something about ACHI Serial controller when it boots but the drives say they are controlled by the raid bios.
I'll upload the photos in a bit.
