    BSOD playing Skyrim, error 0x0000007f

    Hello,
    I have been BSOD free since March 2014. Now while I was in the skills menu of Skyrim and playing music on Zune's software, my computer crashed for no reason. I have replaced the motherboard on this system from the last diagnoses from this site. I am now at a loss of ideas what this could be since I have tested all other components to this system already and all of them passed their tests. Attached is the SF Diagnostic tool results.

    Code:
    *******************************************************************************
    *                                                                             *
    *                        Bugcheck Analysis                                    *
    *                                                                             *
    *******************************************************************************

    UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
    This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
    that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
    is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
    bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
    Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
    traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
    If kv shows a taskGate
            use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
    Else if kv shows a trapframe
            use .trap on that value
    Else
            .trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
            (on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
    Okay so thats complicated let me break it down.

    This error message can occur if either of the following conditions exists:

    Your computer has hardware or software problems (hardware failure is the most common cause).
    You try to over clock the speed of your computer's processor (for example, you set a 150 MhZ processor to run at 187 MhZ).
    The above STOP error means a trap occurred in kernel mode and the trap is either one the kernel is not allowed to have or is always fatal.

    The most common causes of a STOP 0x7F are:
    Low-level hardware corruption, such as corrupt memory (RAM)
    Mismatched memory modules
    A malfunctioning motherboard
    If you are overclocking please return the values back to stock speeds.

    Also i would like you to run MEMTEST86+

    RAM - Test with Memtest86+

    Thanks for the quick reply!!!

    My computer is not overclocked in anyway. The only thing I have running is MSI Afterburner, which is only controlling my fan speed at this moment. I have user defined controls set for the CPU fan. Could this be the cause??

    Also, I have already ran a Memtest back when I was having issues with my motherboard in March. I ran through 9 passes without one error or hiccup. Do you still think I should do this again??

    Yes please run The Memtest again.

    Also MSI Afterburner is notorious for causing BSOD's.

    Again, thank you for helping me with this issue! I will stop using MSI afterburner and I will run the Memtest as you recommended. I will post the results as soon as I can.

    Thanks,
    Kurt

    I also found these are relating to MSI Afterburner.

    Those are dated back in 2012 though. Were they in the 7-15-2014 BSOD results??

    The "2012" is the driver version.

    I see. That could be the sole cause of this issue all together. Thing is, I just downloaded Afterburner in 2014 from MSI's site. It said there was an update, so I will update it. After updating, do you recommend using it? Or stay away for testing purposes?

    I am back to running Skyrim without it. So far so good. Then again, BSODs can come back weeks later after extensive successful testing. I will run the Memtest tonight when I don't need my computer up for file sharing today.

    Stay away from it, Play skyrim for a few hours/days.

    If the BSOD is still persistent then we know there is another issue.
