BSOD crash 0x80070057 corrupt aswrvrt.sys after Win update, won't boot
Windows 7 BSOD crash 0x80070057 corrupt aswrvrt.sys after Win update. System won't restore, repair or boot.
Hi
UK user, Dell XPS15 (core i7, 8GB), 500GB NTFS HDD, Win7 (64) Home Premium. Avast AV (free).
Problem arose when Win7 updated last week - caused Avast (and Dell Quickset) to stop working. System would not allow Avast to be fully uninstalled, possibly some malware involved too. I used Avast removal tool and tried to restart.
After this, System won't boot normally or in safe mode - BSOD with 0x80070057 error. Have tried System restore, last good configuration, chkdsk/r and Startup repair - all fail. Avast support have also tried various things (inc FRST64). I have a USB with Win7 on, and can use this to get to command prompt but all repairs/restores fail.
Startup repair diagnostic details: Boot critical file c:\windows\system32\drivers\aswrvrt.sys is corrupt. Repair action: file repair. Result: Failed. Error code 0x2.
BSOD states: Technical information - STOP: 0x0000007B (0xFFFFF880009A97E8, 0XFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0X0000000000000000, 0X0000000000000000)
Does anyone have any suggestions as to other things I can try without losing the data on the drive? The drive has a recovery partition - not sure if this is an issue.
Thanks in advance
Andy
