Could it be a problem with one of my portable hdd, because it only happens when I have them plugged in. Is there a way to test them. They are both toshibas one is 500gb the other one is a 1tb.
Ok so I tested my portable hdd's by going to computer/right click drive/ error checker. I did the 500gb first it ran then said it found and fixed errors and put the infected files in a folder named "found", I clicked open the drive and my computer crashed and gave me the BSOD like I got before. So then I plugged in my 1tb and ran the test it said it also found and fixed errors, but unlike the other one I was able to go in and delete the files that caused the problem and go through the whole drive like normal.
So I ran a scan with microsoft security essentials and malwarebytes on the 1tb since it was already in, they both came back with nothing.
So then I plugged in the 500gb and started a scan with essentials first and maybe 30 seconds into it my computer crashed with the same BSOD.
So I think it is the drive, I assume there is no way to fix it ? and if not is there anyway to safely get my files from it or atleast some of them and transfer them to my other portable hdd ?
I was able to plug the problem portable hdd (the 500gb one) into a laptop I have running vista home premium, I was able to delete the "found" folder and any other items to do with those files. I then plugged it back into my laptop that was crashing, I was able to open the drive with no problem. I then ran a microsoft essential scan and it found this
hacktool:androidOS/zegrush
file:\android tools\superoneclickv2.3.3-shortfuse\exploits/zegrush
I am running a malewarebytes scan now on it. I will finish that scan then use it for awhile and see if it happens again but I think the hacktool was the problem. If you think it was something else and not the hacktool on the drive please let me know.
Also could that have infected my pc/phone any farther.
I ran the test on the 500gb and it came back completely fine. Also the malewarebytes scan came back with no problems.
It says the test in unavailable on the 1tb one.
I just used them both for a little while with no problem.
