BSOD 0x00000116 / Random Desktop Freezing

    Hi,

I have had this problem for a while now and i have checked forums / different sites to try and solve this problem but none so far have worked.

This involves uninstalling / reinstalling graphic card drivers. Graphics card tests. Hard Drive tests. The motherboard / RAM and CPU are a few months old and it was doing it on my old motherboard / RAM / CPU.

When i have tried to update / reinstalling graphic card drivers it would go to a BSOD and each time i would get the 0x00000116 error code, this seems to be a driver problem but im guessing it is more than that?

There also seems to be some problems with Atheros Wireless LAN device driver at times, the latest one should be installed.

Lastly my pc will random freeze for about 30 seconds to 2 minutes sometimes and now and again it will reboot, which i think is due to a graphics issue.

Any help on this matter would be grateful. If i have missed anything let me know.

    Phil

I find much as you suspected
    Code:
    lmvm athrx
    start end module name
    fffff880`04a7c000 fffff880`04bf9000 athrx T (no symbols)
        Loaded symbol image file: athrx.sys

Which is your Atheros network adapter driver. I would think your motherboard's web site has more recent drivers than 2009. Please check and download newer drivers.

    Code:
     lmvm nvlddmkm
    start end module name

Which of course your Nvidia drivers.

Please download a more recent WHQL driver or if this is the most recent driver, try one a little older. Please follow this guide for uninstalling the current ones and installing the newer ones NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems

Please use a temp monitoring program for monitoring the CPU and GPU temps at all times. If you need one I can suggest some. The 400 cards are notorious for high temps.

Also please open a elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

Please let us know if any of these suggestions help at all.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the fast reply.

I have just run the sfc / scannow and has come up with Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations. So that part is ok.

I have also updated my LAN driver for my network card now.

I have just installed Open Hardware Monitor. I have attached a report now if you want to have a look at it. If you have a preferred one you would like me to use, let me know.

I have gone have downloaded Nvidia Driver 337.68 and that installed ok this time. I have had in the past on the screen where the display picture colours go all weird, i don't want to replace it just yet, incase that is not the cause.

I have attached another DM Log with updated drivers.

Until the problem happens again i can't let you know or supply a new BSOD report.

Thanks for letting me know. Just see if it works. I hope you went by the tutorial for installing the Graphics driver. That will give you the cleanest install I think we can get and not have any unnecessary drivers to confuse the situation.

    Hi,

Have had no problems until today, was browsing the internet and it just went to a black screen and had to reboot the pc, there was no bluescreen or any message. It had been doing this before - any suggestions or anyway for me to get a log so you can see what caused this?

I can't find it on the screenshots, but would you go into bios and give me the values of the +12V, +5V and the +3.3V please? Also, what manufacturer and model of PSU do you have? It is not listed in your system specs.

There are no new dump files listed. You may look in event viewer and see what you see. Click the start button, type event viewer, click on the entry that appears, go to windows logs and then to system and see if you see any red entries for that time. The symptoms you describe seem to be the graphics again though.
