    Bug Check 0x7F: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

    You have this:

"a double fault (a fault that occurred while processing an earlier fault, which always results in a system failure).

    and

    STOP: 0x0000007f :
usually hardware failure involving the memory, processor, or motherboard

Since you already ran memtest without error, run this:

    |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download

And also completely uninstall 3rd party antivirus and firewall apps. Do not just disable instead.
You might be running some kind of incompatible software in relation to those or not.

Update all drivers on the machine possible.

    Another test after all that:

msconfig at start menu search box. Go to startup tab. Uncheck everything, hit ok. Reboot and play around with the machine for test.

ok, i'll run that. also, the only security program i'm using is Zonealarm Internet Security Suite (which includes antivirus and firewall and all that). you bring up an interesting point about a double fault. would the fact that 2 of my 3 memory sticks are ECC?

    edit:
also, please post on the other thread. it's hard juggling back and forth on 2 threads on the same subject.

That could be a problem. Take the 2 ecc out to test and run with only 1 non ecc. Mismatched ram possible, yeah.

i'll give that a try, but i don't think that would work. i have 3 1GB sticks. if i take 2 out, i'm only left with 1GB and i dunno how well my computer will run without them to test it. but i'll give it a shot.

1 GB is more than fine to run. That's all I had for years and system ran awesome. 2 GB now, no difference in perception. Really for a test. If you want more and find it runs well during test, get more non ecc.

yea, it's working. it's slow as hell, but it's working. i have steam running (which is the only thing that's caused my crashes so far) and i'll see if it dies with those 2 ram sticks out.

Good, getting to the bottom of the problem is most important. Keep us updated.
