BSOD playing Diablo 3, error relating to mrxsmb.sys and nvlddmkm.sys

    Good day

Recently i got a random blue screen/lockup while playing Diablo 3. This is the first one that i have gotten since around March if this year so it struck me as very random.

The most common lockup being the black screen issue where i have to shut down and restart my pc.
This particular lockup occured after several hours of gameplay.

I use programmes such as MSI Afterburner in conjunction with HWinfo to monitor GPU and CPU temperatures. All of which seems to be in the normal temperature range.

Ive used other diagnostic tools such as Seagate Tools, Memtest86, OCCTand CrystalDiskInfo to name but a few. Nothing at all points to the CPU or GPU overheating as far as i can tell.

I will continue to identify any other problems. I have attached all the relevant info. If anyone could assist where applicable i would be most grateful.

    Kind regards

Hi Coach, I hope I can help you, but it appears the dump file is blaming your GPU.

    Code:
     nvlddmkm
    start end module name
    fffff880`0f08c000 fffff880`0fd1a000 nvlddmkm T (no symbols)
        Loaded symbol image file: nvlddmkm.sys
        Image path: nvlddmkm.sys
        Image name: nvlddmkm.sys

You can try updating your graphics driver using this method NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems and see if it works. But, from what I've seen in the BSOD threads, it seems that game is causing a lot of people trouble. May I suggest, just for a test, you update your driver to the latest WHQL driver and turn the game settings down a lot to see if that helps. I don't play that game so I'm not sure whether it is the game coding or if the game is just that hard on graphics cards and CPU's. If you are overclocking anything, I would recommend you set everything back to default levels. let me know how that works, and if you have this problem with other games.

You may also want to check this site and make sure you have the latest Direct X version. It will tell you if you have or install it if you don't http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113

    Hi Essenbe

Thank you for the timely response and links provided.

I re-installed my Nvidia drivers using the above method you linked, so far so good. I havnt had any problems since but it seems very random and i cant relate it to anything else.

I dont overlock anything so there are no issues there. So far this is the only game that has given me trouble with BSOD's, every other game is fine which is strange.

i will keep on monitoring and if there are no further issues i will mark this thread as solved.

    Kind regards

Ok, just let me know. For some reason, Diablo 3 has given a lot of people problems. I don't play that game, but I do play others. I don't know if the game is that demanding that it causes problems, or if there is simply bad encoding in the Game, as there is in other games. Some games, the encoding is simply bad and will crash. What is extremely difficult to tell is if it is the game itself that is crashing or the graphics card or graphics drivers crashing. I have learned that if the game itself crashes, the debugger will always blame the graphics drivers. So, I would assume that if no other game causes you to BSOD, that the problem is that game. That is just a guess on my part, but it is a logical assumption. I know that does not help you much, but that is my assumption. I had the same issues with BF4, as did others. There was patch after patch for the game, which tells you that it is the game and they are trying to fix it. I eventually just uninstalled it. But, if you still have problems, ley us know and maybe we can figure something out. Thanks.
