    Random BSOD 7f

    Hello everyone,

Thank you so much for taking a moment to read this post. I'm kind of at my wits end here and have come to the end of my own ability to troubleshoot my issue.

I have just gotten this computer and started the usual plethora of installations and upgrades. Not long into the process, I found I began getting BSOD's, all very random and without warning. I even got one attempting to register for this forum to post this.

I've attached the dump files and hope having a look at them will help someone point me in the right direction to solve this.

Any help will be unbelievably appreciated. Thanks again.

    Welcome to 7F.

All of the attached dumps are flagging the same two things, steps to solve these issues are outlined below.

1: Firstly is Intel Rapid Storage driver.
    Code:
    fffff880`09bdd008 fffff880`02ec01cbUnable to load image \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\dump_iaStor.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for dump_iaStor.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for dump_iaStor.sys
     dump_iaStor+0x471cb
If you are not running a RAID setup, uninstall Intel Rapid Storage. First uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features. This one ....
    Code:
    Start Menu\Programs\Intel® Matrix Storage Manager
Then Uninstall the driver from device manager.

    1. Right click on "My Computer" icon and click "Manage" on the context menu.
    2. It will open the "Computer Management" window.
    3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
    4. Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
    5. Select one Intel device item under it, right click, uninstall.
    6. Continue the process for all Intel items under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
    7. Now restart the computer. At restart, Windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.

2: Secondly your ATI graphics driver has been flagged.
    Code:
    fffff880`09bdd4c8 fffff880`04aa91feUnable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\atikmdag.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for atikmdag.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for atikmdag.sys
     atikmdag+0x1e1fe
It's pretty old and needs updating.
    Code:
    2: kd> lmvm atikmdag
    start end module name
    fffff880`04a8b000 fffff880`050c2000 atikmdag T (no symbols)
        Loaded symbol image file: atikmdag.sys
        Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\atikmdag.sys
        Image name: atikmdag.sys
        Timestamp: Thu Dec 10 06:42:32 2009 (4B209858)
        CheckSum: 005F19E8
        ImageSize: 00637000
        Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4
Download the 13.9 driver from here then use AMD Uninstall Utility to remove all traces of your current driver, CCC etc. Reboot and install the 13.9 driver.

       Note
When installing choose 'Advanced' or 'Custom' (whichever option is available, just not Express) and uncheck everything except the video driver.

3: Lastly I notice you have AVG and Comodo installed, this may be causing a conflict even though nothing is showing in the dumps. My advice would be to remove both programs and Install MS Security Essentials and MalwareBytes.

       Note
Make sure you uncheck the 'Enable Free Trial' box when installing.

Please carry out the above steps and report back.

    Just a quick update.

I made all suggested changes (barring the last, because as my preferred setup, I'd hate to have to change these two) and so far, knock wood, no BSOD's. Should one occur, I will, of course, follow the original advice given and swap out my AV and FW for those suggested before returning for help.

I want to give many, many thanks to Boozad for the time and attention you gave me in this issue, it is greatly appreciated.

Assuming there are no other problems in the next 24hrs, I'll mark this thread solved.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for getting back to us, hopefully your BSODs are cured. If any more do occur please run the tool again and post new logs to be analysed to pinpoint the problem. It is a well known fact for BSOD analysts that virtually every AV program can cause BSODs, the only one we've never seen cause a BSOD is MSE hence the recommendation.
All of this may be irrelevant though as like I stated in my previous post there was nothing in your logs pointing to either AVG or Comodo as being a cause of your problems. It was just an observation on my part and may well be nothing to be concerned about.

Do let us know, and hopefully all is sorted for you.

Spoke too soon, I guess. Was just watching a YT video when down it went. Sigh.

Well, I've run the tool again and attached the logs. Would you be kind enough to have a look and see what's happened? Thank you so much.

Right, we have different animal here in a STOP 0x7F. This can be down to a multitude of issues and I'd like to rule out RAM first of all.

Download and run MemTest86+ to test your RAM.

       Note
    Attachment 333915

Run MemTest86+ for at least 8 passes. This is a long test, ideally set it off before you go to bed and leave it overnight, we're looking for zero errors here. A single error will show something's going bad with your RAM and you can stop the test if it hasn't already completed.

    Thanks for the suggestion, Boozad.

Ran it. 8 passes, no errors. I suppose that should make me feel good, but if there's nothing happening with the RAM, this could be a MB issue, couldn't it? I certainly hope not.

OK. Just to confirm, this is a laptop we're working on here correct? And there is no overclocking applied to any of the components at all?
