Yeah, I made an executive decision and decided to use Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit instead of 64-bit about ten days ago and this time around did not install Firefox, but am using IE8 only.

Reliability History remains at 10/10 and would you believe I'm finding 32-bit just as fast if not faster and more reliable than 64-bit?

Thanks for keeping us all updated on how you (and your Dad) are going. That's terrific.
Yes i noticed 32bits OS seem lots fast than 64bits but sometime 64bits run lots fast if using large RAM like between 4GB to 8GB -- I used 8GB RAM (OCZ 4x2GB DDR2-800) and boot up seem so fast - same as my dad in 32bits OS as his PC using 2GB OCZ. I still think the problems may have cause by some softwares like Photshop or anything that need update fix patch rather than Firefox alone. Some of my softwares already updated fixed patch between November to early December (updated in KIS 2010 with a,b fix patch and TuneUp 2010 updated patch plus Logitech Setpoint 4.80 with updated latest patch that seem sort out the problem).

The problem is obviously related to a windows update. I thought it was a conflict with NOD32 but it seems to be something else.

I removed IE8 and it seemed to have fixed the problem. I'm currently right clicking everywhere to make sure xD

Add me to the list of users experiencing the right click explorer crash. I have two identical systems (Dell 8400s). One running Windows 7 RC (build 7100) and it does not right click crash. My other system is a Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade from XP SP3 that has the right click crash. I've tried many of the solutions posted on this forum with no success. Next, I plan to wipe the hard drive and re-install.

Hi, I have also wiped my drive and reinstalled Windows 7 Pro once before but still get the problem from time to time. There is a reg edit posted in a number of places in this forum, this got rid of the crashing from a lot to a little.

Thanks for the follow up. I tried a few regedit posts with claims to solve the issue but had no luck. I also tried some of the posts regarding shexview. I tried removing FireFox, using various versions and removing IE8 and removing various other programs but no luck. Occasionally, I can achieve ONE right click without crashing, but not two in a row.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried removing IE8 according to instructions posted in this forum but it did not fix my right click crash (RCC).

The reason I want to do a re-install on a reformatted hard drive is that my right click crash actually appeared with XP SP3 in the days just before I installed the W7 home premium (HP) upgrade. So for me, the RCC existed in XP at the upgrade. I was hoping the upgrade was going to fix matters.

My RCC appeared when I was evaluating two programs: CircleDock and RocketDock and attempted to uninstall CircleDock. During the uninstall process, my system froze and had to be re-booted.

I am not implicating either of these programs just stating what happened. My RCC might not be related to either CircleDock or W7. That's why I plan to do the install from a reformatted drive even though others have tried this without success.

Thanks for the reply. I tried various regedit and shexview solutions posted in the forum. Can you be more specific about what worked for you or provide or provide a link to the instructions that worked?

I searched the threads and followed the instructions by the user named "frostee" in your thread:

https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...r-crashes.html

Using ShellExView v1.45 (NirSoft - freeware utilities: password recovery, system utilities, desktop utilities) I disabled all non Microsoft context menu items. The right click crash appears to be resolved.

Of note, my system registry does not have an entry from "Machine Throttling" but I did find:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\AdaptiveSqm\Throttling

However, I was able to solve the right click crash without editing the registry.

Many thanks to those who had the skills to figure this one out.

Hey All,

I've been error free for just over a month now, since I've stopped using FireFox. However, another program I use frequently for dubbing tapes is Audacity, which doesn't cause explorer to crash, but it self crashes from time to time. The source of the fault is, of course, ntdll.dll or one of the other two associated with the clipboard. I hope MS finds and plugs this hole, because there's nothing more agitating than dubbing for two hours, and then have the program crash on you and lose most of your work.

I have yet to experience such a crash (fortunately).

Does this happen to anyone in SAFEMODE?

Is there ever anything listed in The Action Center (START | View all problem reports)?
