I had an old vaio once (p2 366), the hdd kept clicking on it, it was ridiculously slow, but it wasn't unstable. Clicks can be due to a bracing mechanism on some drives when movement is detected.

However, most loud click-whirrs are an ominous sign. Accompanied by crashes on disk access, it spells a big prob. Get a new one if it's an old drive and you can afford to, or consider an SSD, both solutions should prove faster (the SSD by a mile if you pick indilinx/intel)

ok so after i cleaned my register it was still freezing so i decided to reinstall win 7 and it was working!! than after about a full night of using my computer with no problems i went into my windows.old folder cause i had some music in there that i wanted to put onto itunes. while the music was uploading to my itunes it stated to freeze again!! now when i start win 7 in anything other than safe mode it freezes. could it be something with the files in my windows.old folder, also would there be a problem if i deleted windows.old because its taking up an absurd amount of room in my hard drive, and whenever i open that folder windows seems to freeze

For the past few weeks, about 1/2 hour after booting my computer up in the morning, whatever program I'm using at the moment will stop responding. If I continue to try to get it to respond, its screen will dim and I get the message "Not responding". The disk activity light goes on 100%. To a...
