windows 7 freezes

hi, i just installed windows 7 on my sony vaio laptop and everything seemed to be fine but after about 30 minutes it started to freeze and my harddrive was making a weird sound and the harddrive light indicator will stay light but turn off when the harddrive makes that weird sound. I didnt know what to do so I called microsoft and they told me it was my registry that was messed up and they wanted to charge me 130 dollars (which is rediculous since i just bought their new OS which is causing me these problems) so i ended up getting a program to fix my registry and it did so, but it still freezes when i start up windows 7. right now the only thing that works is safe mode. can someone help me out im kinda new at this and i dont no where else to go. thanks in advance

Doesn't really sound like it to me.

First, check that the HDD is installed well and connections to mainboard and power supply are well.

Go into safe mode. Open a command prompt (cmd.exe at start menu search box.)

put this nice little line in there by copying and pasting:

sfc /scannow then hit enter

Let that finish. Then talk to the laptop a little. Treat it nicely and sweet talk to it a little.

Then enter this command from the same prompt:

chkdsk /r C:

if you have another partition on D:, do the same for it.

chkdsk /r D:

Do for all drive letters that are actually HDD or HDD partitions.

When done, reboot into normal mode while sweet talking to it and maybe it will be nice in return for you.

Good luck.

If the above fails, do this also in safe mode:

msconfig

Put that in start menu search box and hit enter. Go to startup tab and uncheck everything by hitting disable all. Hit ok. Reboot to normal mode.

If fail,

Uninstall any drivers you put on there yourself, if you can remember which. Do that by right clicking on devices in device manager. Choose uninstall.

Do one at a time for best results. (Boot to normal=fail, uninstall another in safe - Boot to normal=fail, uninstall another in safe - etc....)

Also could look at services.msc (start menu search box again, enter) and disable any services you installed (like antivirus services etc...look for names you know you personally installed.)

i did another register clean using a different program and it was able to clean all errors except for one which is
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{722b3793-5367-4446-b6bb-db89b05c1f24}
does anyone know what this means or how i can fix this registry?

What's the laptop spec?
I would gather as much up-to-date drivers as I could.
Look in particular for chipset/storage and power management drivers. Put them on a USB Key, along with anything you want to save.
Try installing the drivers first, but if you can't, try reinstalling Windows 7 and installing them from your USB key again asap.
Good luck!
