    Sudden BSOD

    Hello gents,

Suddenly over the last few months I have started getting more and more BSOD. I have done what I could with google searching for answers. I play WoW and it seems as that most of the BSOD will come when I am playing it. However, a few nights ago I was laying on the couch with my wife and watched my computer reset 5-6 different times because of a BSOD that was never logged. For some reason I am unable to upload the files into skydrive so I have copied them the best I can.

    https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resi...t=folder%2ctxt

I have tried running a test with driver verifier with no luck - Could just be me not knowing what I am doing with it other then what I could find on google.

Also tried doing a memtest that comes on the installation media, ran several passes on all sticks, 1 stick for every stick (3 in total (12g)).

Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.

The goal is to test all the RAM sticks and all the motherboard slots.

Check your motherboard manual to ensure the RAM sticks are in the recommended motherboard slots. Some motherboards have very specific slots required for the number of RAM sticks installed.

If you get errors, stop the test and continue with the next step.

    1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.
*Be sure to note the RAM stick, use a piece of tape with a number, and note the motherboard slot.
If this stick passes the test then go to step #3.

    2. If RAM stick #1 has errors, repeat the test with RAM stick #2 in the same motherboard slot.
*If RAM stick #2 passes, this indicates that RAM stick #1 may be bad. If you want to be absolutely sure, re-test RAM stick #1 in another known good slot.
*If RAM stick #2 has errors, this indicates another possible bad RAM stick, a possible motherboard slot failure or inadequate settings.
    3. Test the next stick of RAM (stick #2) in the next motherboard slot.
*If this RAM stick has errors repeat step #2 using a known good stick if possible, or another stick.
*If this RAM stick has no errors and both sticks failed in slot#1, test RAM stick #1 in this slot.
    4. If you find a stick that passes the test, test it in all the other motherboard slots.

If Part 2 testing shows errors, and all tests in Part 3 show errors, you will need to test the RAM sticks in another computer and/or test other RAM in your computer to identify the problem.

In this way, you can identify whether it is a bad stick of RAM, a bad motherboard, or incompatibility between the sticks.
       Information
Errors are sometimes found after 8 passes.

       Tip
    Memtest should be done overnight.

I greatly appreciate the help guys/gals. I have been rather sick and today is the first day I have even gotten onto my computer. However we have passed a bench mark as my computer has been running for a solid 4-5 days with no BSOD, until after I post this cause my luck is just that way.

Before I posted all this I did a "boot check" of the ram to see if POST would find anything wrong. Of course that would be to easy and it did not. But I did move some of my sticks around, I have had a lot of issues out of this MB and have had to send it off for repair 3 times in the past. I believe I got a new MB the last time I sent it off because of all the dust on the package. I move my #3 stick of ram to #4. Thus far everything has been good. Computer is even running faster then it did before and no errors to mention as of now.

Once I am feeling a bit better and after thanksgiving I will run the memtest86 and see if I did in fact stumble onto the issue at hand.

Thanks again for all the help!

Hello Redneck. I'm from a lot deeper South than you, so if I call you Redneck it is not a derogatory term. If I could get you to do me a favor, please download CPUz, if you don't already have it. (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html) and post screenshots (Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums) of the CPU, Mainboard, Memory and SPD tabs please. On the SPD tabs you can select each Dimm slot from a dropdown list in the upper left of the SPD page. I only need the ones with ram in them. Let me look and see if I can tell what's going on. Maybe I can see something. Sometimes ram sticks will lose contact after some time and movement and reseating the sticks can solve a lot of problems. That may very well be what you did. Your motherboard manual will tell you which slots the board likes them in. It sounds like you have moved them into single channel mode rather than dual channel mode. Generally, many people will get better performance in Dual Channel mode. But, if you run a lot of single threaded applications, Single Channel will give you better performance. I know that may sound like gibberish to a lot of people and I will try to explain, if you really want to know. But, as long as your computer is running well for your uses, that is all we need to worry about.

Also, it would help us to help you if we knew more specific details about what components you have in your computer. Sometimes we have to look up a component and Manufacturer and Model helps out a lot. Please include which graphics card, brand and size of your power supply and pretty much anything inside or attached to the computer. You may not know everything, so I will give you the instructions I usually give to help people accomplish that and put it in the correct place.
Please fill out your System Specs

       Information
Your System Specs will help us to help you, and doing it in this manner will make them available to all helpers in every post and keep us from hunting for them. We ask that you fill them out in as much detail as possible including Desktop or Laptop, Model number if it is an OEM computer and all components with the Manufacturer and Model number if possible.

If you will go to your last post and click the 'System Specs' in the bottom left of the post, you will find a link to update your system specs. Please fill those out in as much detail as possible, making sure to click save at the bottom of the page. If you would like to know what we would like, you can click 'My System Specs' at the bottom left of this post to see mine. If you do not know what your components are, this will help you accomplish this task. System Info - See Your System Specs

Please let us know the results as well as any questions you may have about anything. Don't hesitate to ask about anything you don't understand or would just like to know. I don't mind explaining at all. If you are planning on running memtest86+, as KoolKat suggested, hopefully this will help.
    Please Run Memtest86+

       Information
Please download from this site only http://www.memtest.org/ in the middle of the page are the Download links, you can download the ISO.zip or the Auto USB Flash Drive installer.zip

Extract the Zip file. If you chose the ISO image, burn it to a CD using Windows Disk Image Burner or any Image burner you may have. If you downloaded the Auto USB installer, extract it, insert your USB 2.0 Flash Drive and take note of the drive letter. Run the installer, select the Flash Drive Letter, check the format box and press next. It will install memtest86+ to a flash drive. You can use either V4.20 or V5.01. Boot from your selected media. If you use V5.01 it will tell you to press certain buttons at the start, please press no buttons. The test will begin on it's own and continue to run until you stop it. It needs to run for 8 complete passes or until you receive an error. If you receive an error, stop the test. Even 1 error is a fail. Each pass tests a different part of the ram and each of the 10 tests in each pass tests something different. It takes a minimum of 8 passes to completely test the ram, more passes are better. It is quite a long test and will take several hours depending on how much ram you have. Due to the time length it is best to run overnight. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask

Okay, once again I apologize on the length of time for a update... I recently had a lot of bsod and had to just walk away before my 7mm mag and 9mm became good friends with my tower. I finally got memtest on the usb ran it, bsod while it was running. Then it froze... replaced my main hdd with a 120gb kingston ssd.....and the problems started..mainly from my stupidity. But that's another story. I ended up having to do a fresh install of the os. Nothing but random restarts and bsod for the 1st 3 days. Now it's settled down... I ran memtest again and we'll another bsod this time I could NOT boot. Would not load to the post or any of the mobo info screen... gave up once again and went and bought a new rifle. I'm running the memtest again tonight but at this point I'm not sure what to do. I will get the cpu_z back on it and upload a pic as soon as I can... the memory I have came from crucial and I'm not entirely sure but maybe I should check my timing in bios.

Ooh I almost forgot... tonight I was playing wow and randomly it froze, then crashed along with EVERY program open. Got a pop up saying it could not write to memory... guessing I do in fact have a bad stick or possibly a dieing mobo. After sending the mobo off for repair 3 times after first purchasing it better be the sticks.

Here is the additional info you requested...

I did check and all of the SPD info is the same for all slots. Although I believe, or did, slot #2 is bad. So there is not a stick in it. Only 1, 3, 4

Ok, you sent 1 dimm slot of the SPD tab. You don't have to send the others, but look at the part number and make sure all of the part numbers in the other slots are identical.

Go into BIOS and see what the sata controller is set to (IDE,AHCI or Raid) and remember that and tell me.
Look and tell me the values of your +12V, +5V and +3.3V
Set your BIOS to optimized defaults, set your sata controller to what it is tight now. Set your ram manually to 9-9-9-24 and manually set the Dram Voltage to 1.35V. Next go to the Boot Priorities and set your DVD drive as 1st boot device and tyour hadr drive with Windows on it to 2ND boot device. Change nothing else, save and exit.
On entering the OS run the BSOD Posting instructions Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions and upload the results.
Post a screenshot of disk management Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image
Post a screenshot of device manager. If there are any yellow icons, expand that area before making the screenshot.

Did you build this computer and how comfortable are you working inside one?

What software are you using for CPU and GPU temps? I want you to have one of each and Set it to where you can monitor it at all times. I want to know your temp ranges on both during normal operations. Your specs say you are running an 5770 graphics card, they run very hot, so it is especially important to monitor it, especially when doing GPU intensive programs such as gaming.

Post those things and see if you see any difference.

Also, let me know the results of memtest. I hope you followed the instructions I gave and downloaded it from ther link in the instructions. You BSODing during memtest tells me you have a hardware problem. memtest, runs out of ram, so there are no drivers, hard drives or anything else involved.

I did download from your instructions.

I do know those gpus run rather hot. I had a monitoring software before but I do not remember what it was and with wiping and starting over thinking that was orginally my issue I've lost it. I don't much remember what the temp on the gpu got to either. I have 6 fans on my case all bringing air in the case except one. The too fan is use to bring the hot air out. H I currently don't have a gpu and cpu temp program. The cpu never reached over 37° C while I had all of my tower together. Right now I have all of the side taken apart and sitting on the floor next to me.

The part #s, voltage, timing, along with everything else was/is all the same.

Yes, I did build it and I already have a upgrade option on stand by if this thing continues to be a pain in the rump. I am rather comfortable working on it, especially if someone is guiding me through things I haven't done or may not have done recently.

I am letting me test run till later this afternoon, then I will post screen shots and update the bios info. Please advise at what software you would like to use as the monitoring software for heat.
