Sudden BSOD

Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.

• RAM - Test with Memtest86+

The goal is to test all the RAM sticks and all the motherboard slots.

Check your motherboard manual to ensure the RAM sticks are in the recommended motherboard slots. Some motherboards have very specific slots required for the number of RAM sticks installed.

If you get errors, stop the test and continue with the next step.

1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.

*Be sure to note the RAM stick, use a piece of tape with a number, and note the motherboard slot.

If this stick passes the test then go to step #3.

2. If RAM stick #1 has errors, repeat the test with RAM stick #2 in the same motherboard slot.

*If RAM stick #2 passes, this indicates that RAM stick #1 may be bad. If you want to be absolutely sure, re-test RAM stick #1 in another known good slot.

*If RAM stick #2 has errors, this indicates another possible bad RAM stick, a possible motherboard slot failure or inadequate settings.

3. Test the next stick of RAM (stick #2) in the next motherboard slot.

*If this RAM stick has errors repeat step #2 using a known good stick if possible, or another stick.

*If this RAM stick has no errors and both sticks failed in slot#1, test RAM stick #1 in this slot.

4. If you find a stick that passes the test, test it in all the other motherboard slots.

If Part 2 testing shows errors, and all tests in Part 3 show errors, you will need to test the RAM sticks in another computer and/or test other RAM in your computer to identify the problem.

In this way, you can identify whether it is a bad stick of RAM, a bad motherboard, or incompatibility between the sticks.

Hello Redneck. I'm from a lot deeper South than you, so if I call you Redneck it is not a derogatory term. If I could get you to do me a favor, please download CPUz, if you don't already have it. (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html) and post screenshots (Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums) of the CPU, Mainboard, Memory and SPD tabs please. On the SPD tabs you can select each Dimm slot from a dropdown list in the upper left of the SPD page. I only need the ones with ram in them. Let me look and see if I can tell what's going on. Maybe I can see something. Sometimes ram sticks will lose contact after some time and movement and reseating the sticks can solve a lot of problems. That may very well be what you did. Your motherboard manual will tell you which slots the board likes them in. It sounds like you have moved them into single channel mode rather than dual channel mode. Generally, many people will get better performance in Dual Channel mode. But, if you run a lot of single threaded applications, Single Channel will give you better performance. I know that may sound like gibberish to a lot of people and I will try to explain, if you really want to know. But, as long as your computer is running well for your uses, that is all we need to worry about.

Also, it would help us to help you if we knew more specific details about what components you have in your computer. Sometimes we have to look up a component and Manufacturer and Model helps out a lot. Please include which graphics card, brand and size of your power supply and pretty much anything inside or attached to the computer. You may not know everything, so I will give you the instructions I usually give to help people accomplish that and put it in the correct place.

Please download from this site only http://www.memtest.org/ in the middle of the page are the Download links, you can download the ISO.zip or the Auto USB Flash Drive installer.zip

Extract the Zip file. If you chose the ISO image, burn it to a CD using Windows Disk Image Burner or any Image burner you may have. If you downloaded the Auto USB installer, extract it, insert your USB 2.0 Flash Drive and take note of the drive letter. Run the installer, select the Flash Drive Letter, check the format box and press next. It will install memtest86+ to a flash drive. You can use either V4.20 or V5.01. Boot from your selected media. If you use V5.01 it will tell you to press certain buttons at the start, please press no buttons. The test will begin on it's own and continue to run until you stop it. It needs to run for 8 complete passes or until you receive an error. If you receive an error, stop the test. Even 1 error is a fail. Each pass tests a different part of the ram and each of the 10 tests in each pass tests something different. It takes a minimum of 8 passes to completely test the ram, more passes are better. It is quite a long test and will take several hours depending on how much ram you have. Due to the time length it is best to run overnight. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask

Ok, you sent 1 dimm slot of the SPD tab. You don't have to send the others, but look at the part number and make sure all of the part numbers in the other slots are identical.

Go into BIOS and see what the sata controller is set to (IDE,AHCI or Raid) and remember that and tell me.
Look and tell me the values of your +12V, +5V and +3.3V
Set your BIOS to optimized defaults, set your sata controller to what it is tight now. Set your ram manually to 9-9-9-24 and manually set the Dram Voltage to 1.35V. Next go to the Boot Priorities and set your DVD drive as 1st boot device and tyour hadr drive with Windows on it to 2ND boot device. Change nothing else, save and exit.
On entering the OS run the BSOD Posting instructions Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions and upload the results.

Did you build this computer and how comfortable are you working inside one?

What software are you using for CPU and GPU temps? I want you to have one of each and Set it to where you can monitor it at all times. I want to know your temp ranges on both during normal operations. Your specs say you are running an 5770 graphics card, they run very hot, so it is especially important to monitor it, especially when doing GPU intensive programs such as gaming.

Post those things and see if you see any difference.

Also, let me know the results of memtest. I hope you followed the instructions I gave and downloaded it from ther link in the instructions. You BSODing during memtest tells me you have a hardware problem. memtest, runs out of ram, so there are no drivers, hard drives or anything else involved.
