windows 7 rc1 hard drive hang

i found an issue that sounds just like my case, but i didnt want to bump a thread from July to ask this, but on my laptop windows 7 rc1 totaled my original hard drive, and so i bought a new one with more space (old one was 100gb this one is 500gb) anyways the new one has been giving me problems where it just locks up out of nowhere and the hard drive light stays on and everything will be sortof onfrozen, as soon as you go into any window itl say not responding, and if i go into task manager and even sometimes when i dont, the whole pc freezes, mouse wont move, keyboard does nothing(caplock test) and it will hang like that for a min or so, and sumtimes have a bsod after i wait a min. Unfortunately i cant get bsod error number because i finally found decent driver for my chipset and its vista and lets me use the catalyst manager, whcih newer drivers won't, somehow in relation to this my bsod's are just blue, no white text. Heres the article i didnt want to bump Random harddrive lock-ups - Page 2 - Windows 7 Forums.

My problem is that from what i can tell, i'm on ide mode, because my bios doesnt have any settings for changing to raid or ahci, and the device manager says im in ide mode if im checking this right. i didnt want to install some software from intel not designed for my hardware, and i wanted to know if anyone could help me out with this issue. And for anyone wanting to know i'm actually a pretty up and up tech being 17 so feel free to talk tech.

Check the jumper on HDD. Match it to your system. If system mainboard=SATA I port, leave jumper on. If system=SATA II port, take it off.

Edit: I researched for you. Leave the jumper in on the drive. It needs it.

being a tech i usually would understand this on a pc, but on a laptop im confused, the original drive had no jumper pins on it, and my new one does but it didnt come with any jumpers and i think the way the mobo was designed it has a plastic piece sticking out right up to the pins for jumpers on my new hard drive, don't know if it has room for jumpers the way it stickls towards it, half to check which will be unpleasent cause i broke a leg off on the hdd cover last time i took it off, this computer is getting old...

and i must say wow you found my mobo, i never put a great amount of effort into looking it up but i never was able to find a decent specs sheet of it, planned on upgrading processor at one point but couldnt tell what socket it was.

    C:\Windows\Minidump

Copy latest few dumps to another folder. .rar them and attach to a post. I'll analyse for possible causes.
