It sounds like a video card problem. One of the Windows updates will install a driver for the video card. If youcan get into Windows for just a minute, uninstall the video card driver, and watch which updates Windows installs. Just right click and hide the video card driver for your card. It's looking like the card is bad. Any driver, it seems, won't allow you to boot.

Ello TT Tis good to see you got lucky 3rd time lol..

@Steve Tony is a mate of mine from BSM but I've tried to help him as much as poss and have ran out of idea's so referred him here.

You'll be in good hands with Steve TT

Regarding the black screen issue, I can't remember which Nvidia driver you said you're using but the last couple of nights I've had the odd black screen on both monitors when quitting BF4. If left for about 2-3 mins the screen returns to normal but with the "Display Driver Stopped Responding And Has recovered" msg. I'm currently using 344.65 but have had this happen with a couple of the later drivers.

I know this isn't what's causing your BSOD's as its been happening for a while but could be part of your current issues.

Mine does it all the time on startup. The screen will go black for a few seconds to a minute then come back on. No driver stopped message though.

Did you use an upgrade version to install Windows?

just to clarify is it bad that my pc wont do a startup repair? im using a full windows 7 disc not an upgrade, and its a genuine disc not a copy. win7 ultimate 64 bit OEM sp1

Yes, it's bad. It should run startup repair with no problem, unless you have altered system files.

Please open an elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

I don't recall, but did you install MSE? Microsoft Security Essentials (Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows) If not, please do so and run a full scan with it. Then run

    Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller

Hi again, yes I installed and ran full scan of MSE nothing found all ok, ill try the 2 above you have posted now and get back to you

One thing I noticed last night was in my windows update history there are quite a few updates that have "failed" next to them, I don't remember having any notifications to this, my update schedule is set to check for updates but let me decide what to install.

ok ran the sfc /scannow, it took a few minutes to do it and came back with "windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations" so its passed that one trying the others now
