You can download the disk, but it is also located in the system recovery options System Recovery Options
I was able to do startup repair and it said it can't repair it "automatically".....
I was able to find an old windows 7installation disc which allowed me to do startup repair and resulted in the error. When I tried gettin to startup repair using F8 and the only options were safe mode or start normally. Startup repair was not an option
First thing to do is save your personal files. You can do that this way, Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console
Is the old Windows 7 DVD the same as yours, ie Windows 7 Home Premium, and is it SP1? I'm pretty sure an non SP1 DVD cannot do a startup repair on an OS with SP1 installed. If you don't have one, you can download official ISO downloads here http://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/14-windows-7-direct-download-links You want the Media Refresh, I'm pretty sure. Be sure and download the same version you have now or it will not activate or do the repair.
Try to use the one you have and boot through until you get to the options page where there are several options. Choose Command Prompt, type C and press enter, at the C:/ prompt type CD boot and press enter. at the C:/boot prompt type this and press enter after each one
bootrec /FixMbr
bootrec /FixBoot
bootrec /RebuildBcd
Then exit and try to boot.
If that does not work this is about everything that can be done in your situation, just use the newly downloaded ISO file, burned to a blank DVD or to a USB drive with Windows 7 USB flash drive
If none of those worked, I think you have little choice but to do a Clean Install. Just get all of your drivers first if possible. I put them on a USB Flash drive, especially the Chipset and Lan or Wireless driver. You will have to be able to get on the internet. First install Microsoft Security Essentials (Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows)
Run all of the important and recommended updates except the Graphics card update. This will make the clean install work great, providing you have no hardware problems. Clean Install Windows 7
essenbe i really want to thank you for your help :) but i have one last issue. ive reinstalled a clean copy of windows 7. i got the drivers for the internet from the lenovo website but they wont install. when i run the drivers as administrator it goes to the extracting screen and then when it finishes extracting nothing happens. i tried updating through device manager and it doesnt detect anything. when i ran the chipset driver it ran the application and prompted me to restart the computer to finish. when i ran the ethernet and wireless drivers nothing would happen. i noticed i was missing a usb driver as well so i got the usb driver from lenovos site and that also installed fine. should i try to find a generic driver from the intel website as opposed to lenovo?
ok i figured it out. i had to go to my computer in local disk and there was a drivers folder and i went through it and did the setup and now im online. thanks for your help!
ok one last thing. since we know my amd graphics is the cause for the bsod, what should i do? im currently running only on intel graphics and have yet to reinstall the amd graphics driver. last time i did that i got a bsod. everything else is up to date.
with only intel graphics i cant change the screen brightness and the screen resolution isnt that nice
I'm honestly not sure. Most cards in Laptops, or at least many of them, are soldered into place. If yours is, it means you can't replace it, or you have to find someone who is really good to do it. I would think just leave it disabled in Device Manager. You don't have a lot of choices.
