I'm wondering if I could just remove all the drives and put a new 2 TB in there and do a fresh install as directed from there. I'm just kind of paranoid I might forget to back up certain files like saves for computer games and stuff which have been troublesome in the past. I kinda wan't to keep the drive as is until I'm sure I have windows working properly like it was. And Ubuntu will be easy to reinstall because all my files fit on a 15 gig flash drive.
I would keep Ubuntu on a separate HD to avoid future problems. Unplug all other drives during any OS install.
If you have enough space for storage then I'd go with the biggest SSD you can afford because its the best performance improvement you can find, lightning fast with Clean Reinstall Windows 7.

Ubuntu was on a separate HDD so I'll just wipe it and reinstall, it was the 1TB in the disk management screenshot. Unfortunately all I have is a 60 GB SSD on hand from a while back that proved hard to manage windows on. The windows installation grew to big even when I was storing all of my personal files on another HDD. So I'm just going to use the other 2 TB I recently acquired. I do want another SSD bad though but I don't have much cash until the coding internship I'm doing becomes a paid position and I need my computer to get there. Thanks for your help.
I have another question. Can a windows xp computer read a windows 7 hdd in as an external hard drive? When I try to do it windows xp says the drive isn't formatted, which it is because it boots in safe mode just fine in the computer it came from. I just checked. I have access to another windows 7 computer to try to read the hdd but I have to wait until the afternoon. I just want to make sure I can read this drive in other windows installations before I reinstall to the fresh one.
Yes, any Windows OS should read the HD plugged in internally or via USB converter.
If not test the drive with HD Diagnostic extended CD scan,
and Disk Check from the Win7 installation media or REpair CD command line.
FIrst I would rescue it's data in Safe Mode or using Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console
Well I just tried to read it on a Windows 7 laptop and it didn't read. It just gives me the option to format like everything else, so it looks like I am going to have to back up everything the normal way.
edit: I was google searching about msconfig I found that you can enable normal startup from the general tab. Would that get my computer to boot normally again? Currently selective startup is checked. If there's no risk of messing anything up I'd like to try it.

Sorry for the double post but I think I found out the cause of the blue screens. Whenever I attempt to update my nvidia graphics drivers on my fresh install it reboots to a blue screen whether I use windows updates or the nvidia site's updates. I tried a few different versions but still got blue screens. I'm not at home right now but i think the version I need to roll back to is 337.88. The video card I have is a geforce gtx 560. Other people have reported having problems with these updates so I'm really hoping its just a driver issue and not a damaged card. I don't see how it could be because it was working fine before on the previous installation.
You may be able to roll back the Display driver on its Driver tab using the "Rollback driver" button.
If not find and install the older driver, in Safe Mode if necessary.
As to msconfig, I alwasy run with a Clean Boot, only allowing in msconfig>Startup and >Services (after Hiding All MS Services) my AV, sync, gadgets and stckies to start with the OS. Nothing else needs to and is likely only there to spy on you while posing as an Updater.
Well I think I may just have to replace the card. I was really hoping this repair wouldn't cost money but it looks like its going to.
After talking to nvidia tech support today I got the drivers to install but there were red dots everywhere and it still didn't detect my other monitor. It was like this the very first time I installed the drivers on this installation too. I had to put the graphics card in another slot to get it to do this the second time, every other time was a bluescreen.
Some people online are having issues similar to this which made me think it was a driver issue but when I think about the problems I was having with linux such as booting to a pixelated screen may be related to a dead graphics card. Maybe the card dying was what cased it to freeze up that one time in the first place. I might try a clean re-install tomorrow just to check.
At least I still have my original windows drive intact so I can probably just boot it in safe mode, delete the nvidia driver and it will boot normally again. Then I just have to install a new graphics card. It's going to have to wait until we can afford to spend the money on it though.
