Windows 7: BSOD while gaming, error x124

BSOD while gaming, error x124

Have recently (last week) put together a new(ish) computer with the components as listed in my profile. The OLD components are the Hard Drives, and the GPU which have run flawlessly for the past 2-3 years. I am not overclocked, nor am I anywhere near dangerous temperature thresholds. I have ran memtest86 (not memtest86+) for 12 passes with zero error found. Will run memtest86+ if requested, although it seems not to support Haswell-E (not that I imagine memtest does.)

I notice the BSOD primarily when playing video games, however the BSOD is quite inconsistent. It happens while playing Counter Strike: Global Offensive either upon mapload, or after playing for 20+ minutes. However, I was able to play Tropico 4 for several hours without issue the other evening. I have encountered the BSOD with varying sticks of RAM installed, in varying slots.

I found reports of Hard Drive error, which have both been run through chkdsk; the OS drive returning error that was corrected and the secondary drive returning no error despite constant claims of error on HardDriveVolume2.

The BSOD I consistently receive is x124, which is reported by others as either an incorrect overclock (N/A), or other hardware issue. The system has had a fresh install of windows upon upgrading the components.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you kindly, in advance.

Hi there,

Here's some things to try with bugcheck 124's,

Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try

Your fresh install is a Dell OEM on a retail motherboard, that can only happen with an activation hack,

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
OS Version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation
OS Configuration: Standalone Workstation
OS Build Type: Multiprocessor Free
Registered Owner: BS
Registered Organization:
Product ID: 00426-OEM-8992662-00400
Original Install Date: 1/8/2015, 2:06:23 PM
System Boot Time: 1/12/2015, 10:17:39 PM
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: To be filled by O.E.M.
System Type: x64-based PC
Counterfeit installations such as yours contained heavily modified code that causes the installation to behave it unexpected ways. Analysing BSOD's and determining their causes on these sorts of installations is very unreliable. For this reason, many analysts won't attempt it.

My recommendation is to install a genuine Windows 7. This will minimise the problems you are experiencing, and make subsequent diagnosis of BSOD's far more reliable. Once you are running a genuine Windows 7 installation, and are still experiencing BSOD's, we will be happy to help you solve them :)

Hello sevenforums users. I am having a problem lately with frequent BSOD x124 happening at my PC , most noticeably while playing games. I've been reading that this problem is due to hardware temperatures going high, and this would make sense for me as I OC-ed my CPU, but it's strange since I...
