    Win7 wakeup from sleep restarts!

    Hi,
I'm new to this forums so greetings to all!!
And have had some problems with Win7 lately most of which were solved..
So now each time i put the machine (Dell Inspiron 9400) into "sleep" it goes well but when waking up it actually reboots giving me the "unexpected shudown options"!
This's getting me nutts! I rarely shutdown my computer and since I installed Vista never restarted for anything but the two SPs installations..

    Please HEELPPP!

Sorry if my english is that bad..

    Neo

Hello and welcome to SF :)

The type of symptom you're experiencing is frequently resolved through updating the BIOS and hardware-related drivers: NIC, video, chipset...

Therefore, that would be the first place to start. Otherwise, if you're confident that the machine is already on the latest BIOS and drivers, please go through this procedure to collect the information necessary to understand the crash:

    Greetings Neo95,
I just went through this on a Dell laptop (can't remember what model). It took forever to troubleshoot but in the end it turned out that updating the ethernet drivers solved the problem. The owner always used WiFi and never even used the ethernet connection but the mere existence of the outdated drivers caused the problem. That was an odd one, indeed, but eventually I learned that it isn't that uncommon with some Dell laptops.

So, you might look into the ethernet drivers.

    ^^ Thanks
Unfortunately I couldn't find the folder (or file) called "minidump"
    All I see is
    1. Media
    2. Microsoft.net
    3. ModemLogs

And I have ALL hidden files shown (including system files)

    -------------------

    Thanks
^Unfortunately (again!) Dell doesn't provide any drivers for Win7 on their support site and Vista drivers don't work..
My laptop is a bit old, It doesn't even support X64!

So I assume you've installed 32-bit Windows 7 (you should update your system specs).
The Dell Drivers & Downloads site has Vista drivers for the Broadcom ethernet controller. They would probably install in compatability mode if not normally:
    Drivers & Downloads

Or you could see of these Broadcom drivers help:
    Broadcom.com - Ethernet NIC 4401 Driver Downloads

You might also just try disabling the ethernet controller.

    Here are my specs..
    Core Duo T2250
    2GB DDR2 533MHz
    120GB 5400RPM HDD
    ATI X1400 128MB 64bit
    ................................
    As for the Ethernet drivers..
I haven't really "fully" tried them because the day I installed Win7 and the drivers of vista it gave me "bootmgr is compressed.. ctrl+alt+delete to restart" So I reformated and reinstalled with no drivers this time..
I should also note that I installed ALL the latest updates from MS.. Included the "Recommended" and "Optional" ones (no Lang packs) And I believe I saw a driver for the Ethernet controller on the list but haven't tried "Sleep" before the update..
I'll try the links and report..
    Thanks
