    Random BSOD on a newly built PC.


    I just built my first PC and I've been getting random BSOD. I'm not doing anything in particular when they happen. Sometimes it's when I connect my headset...other times were when I opened a program. Once I was trying to access my yahoo mail and I got a message about shockwave player failed to launch and then my PC blue screened on me. Would really like to know what I need to do to fix this. This PC is only 3 days old as I have just built it. Any help would be appreciated...thanks!

    Hello and welcome III mate in the dump files there are refrences to a drive problem so can you run these in safe mode for starters

    I would suggest you leave only the C: drive as the one connected to the board.

    I have tried those but with both drives connected. It came back with no errors but I will gladly try them again once I get back home and report back!

    Well I only suggested those a an elimination try because the dump files are telling me there is a disk error see below

    Just checked them both and the first one was fine with no issues ( Drive S: ) ..I checked Drive C: and no issues. Honestly the screen went so fast once it was done that I didn't get to see the whole thing but I did see where it said 0 Bad Sectors. What else should I check?

    Counterfeit installations such as yours contains heavily modified code that causes the installation to behave it unexpected ways. Analysing BSOD's and determining their causes on these sorts of installations is very unreliable.

    My recommendation is to start with a clean slate, and install a genuine version of Windows. This will minimise the problems you are experiencing, and make subsequent diagnosis of BSOD's far more reliable.

    It's counterfeit? I honestly didn't know that. My brother installed it with a genuine disc...I had seen him put it into the drive. Is there a program or something that could be causing it to show up as counterfeit....or some kind of explanation as to why it's showing up as that...being that it was a legit Windows 7 disc? Is it possible to receive a counterfeit disc from an individual? It was purchased from a private party.

    I did read elsewhere that it could be a ram issue. I did have XMP Profile on in my bios. I disabled it this morning and haven't had any problems so far. Not sure if that was causing any problems or not or if you can determine that.

    I will go and buy my own copy of Windows 7 as soon as I get the money up. Am I ok with running this until then? It would be a couple days until I can buy it.

    There is no such thing as a "genuine disc" - its the product key that is used during activation that determines the genuineness or not. In your case, an Asus OEM was installed to a retail motherboard (the make of motherboard is inconsequential), and shows as activated - this can only be accomplished if a crack/hack was used to activate the product.

    Unfortunately, we cannot help you further until you can show your installation is genuine.

    OK..I'll look into this and ask him about it. Maybe this is what's been causing the problems...thank you for pointing this out to me. I am not happy that this was put onto my PC. I will fix this problem and if I continue to get BSOD ..then I will surely be back. Thanks again
