I've getting ready to do a clean install of Windows 7 (probably on a SSD). That is not something I enjoy.
Your thread caught my eye because I have a similar problem that has frankly been going-on for years and I've never fixed it.

But to your concern, you said you've always had random crashes on sleep/hibernate (i.e. from Day One) so I dunno that a clean reinstall is going to help? Have you done a sfc /scannow and come-up clean? I recently did a Repair Install, which was painful ENOUGH without doing a clean install, and it helped insofar as my sfc /scannow was fixed (I showed errors) but did nothing to help my crash-on-standby woes.

Doing a Repair Install keeps all your programs and files and many settings, but is still a PIA because it reverts Windows to the level of the DVD (or .iso file) you use and thus needs hundreds of Windows Updates after. So it still takes hours to do, though of course that is way less painful than starting-over from scratch to install all your programs after Windows.

    Laith, maxseven,
The BIOS is up to date. I tried an experiment. I removed the wifi card and booted up, then put the computer to sleep. It worked perfect. I was able to put it so sleep five times in a row. I shut it down and reinstalled the wifi card. After boot up it went to sleep perfectly three times then it crashed. I've gone shopping. I have 250 gig SSD coming; mostly for the speed, not to solve the problem. I also ordered an Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260 wifi & bluetooth card. I mulled over ordering the same card as the original but decided I wanted a better and faster card. Hopefully it will be the solution to my issues.

I won't have the wifi card until next week. I'll let you know how it goes.

Again, thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Yes, your right. I looked up your event viewer and it seems like the TCP/IP NetBIOS is causing it. Update it

One thing that comes to my mind is updating the BIOS, if that dosen't work you will have to replace the network/WiFi adapter.
Laith may I ask please what among the logfile reports led you to believe OP's problem was the NIC?

glj I hope the new adapter fixes your problem and that you come-back here to report, thanks.

If you look at the eventviewer report, you will see after the computer goes to sleep the TCP/IP NetBIOS is crashing which leads to a BSOD.

Status update. I installed the new NIC card yesterday. 24 in so far and my laptop goes to sleep everytime I close the lid. I've closed the lid probably a dozen times so far without any crashes. I'll see how it goes through the weekend before I consider it solved.

It's been over a week since I installed the new NIC card. Not one single crash since. I'm going to consider my issue solved at this point. I'm figuring it was a bad NIC or crappy drivers. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I wish I had changed out the NIC card a year ago.
