BSOD 0x0000009f Driver Power State Failure
Hello. This isn't for my PC, but my brother's. I was not awake during the event, but I was able to go into event viewer and get a little more detail on it after he told me what happened
His specs:
- ASUS M5A78L-M LX Plus
- AMD Athlon x2 II 255 (AM3)
- x2 4GB G.SKill ARES
- 2GB Radeon HD 5670
- 500W PSU
- 750GB HDD (Seagate) (Windows 7 Home Premium x64 installed, default boot device, was loaded at the time)
- 320GB HDD (Hitachi) (Windows 10 Technical Preview installed, was not booted to nor loaded at the time)
- SATA DVD Combo Drive (I think it's an LG)
- Linksys AE1000 USB WiFi Adapter
This morning he was having Internet connection issues. In the system tray his wifi showed no internet access, but was connected to our router. When he went to hit 'Disconnect' it 'was showing that he was hitting it and would not disconnect'. He then unplugged his USB adapter from it's port, waited several seconds an reconnected it. It's activity light stayed off. He then tried to bring the network menu back up from the system tray, but it only showed the 'hover over information' and would not bring up the list of connections. He then went to the Control Panel to try to access the Network and Sharing Center from there, but the window would not come up. He then decided to restart his PC, to which he noted it stayed on the shut down screen for a while, at least 10 minutes. That's when the blue screen popped up.
He was able to catch that it said 'Driver Power State Failure' before it fully powered down and then rebooted.
I went into the event viewer and found an error stating:
- The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000009f (0x0000000000000003, 0xfffffa80089e9060, 0xfffff80000b9c518, 0xfffffa800a5a8630). Report Id: 021715-32432-01.
- Event Id : 1001
I also noted 5 errors regarding the CD/DVD Rom (failed to load CDROM 0) in the event viewer that were recorded 1 minute after the previous error.
And I noticed his DVD drive was not showing up along side the HDDs in 'My Computer'
The drive has power, as the tray opens, but Windows is not detecting it properly.
His main hard drive and DVD drive are from his old PC that was bought in early 2009 (drive has not been reformatted, nor has Windows 7 been reinstalled since), his PSU was bought mid 2010, his motherboard, processor and video card were bought in March 2012. The RAM was bought the beginning of 2015 and the 2nd HDD is actually from my laptop (about 3 years old) and the Technical Preview was installed mid-January. He only boots into the 2nd HDD when we play Saints Row 3 and 4 as his Windows 7 installation will not read his Xbox 360 controller in those 2 games.
I've included the files created from the DM Log Collector from his PC as well.
